From mama boss to just mama…

Summary:

  • Schitt's Creek is a show where all the characters are weirdos of some sort.
  • However, over the course of the show, many of them got arcs that made them seem better.
  • Jocelyn is the only character whose personality has changed for the worse.

Schitt's Creek is one of the series which after you watch once, you can’t help but make it your go-to comfort show. Some fans say that this brilliant comedy with some drama aftertaste even moved Friends from the top for them.

Well, it's really no wonder why the show has such an impact on people. It's always fun to follow a dysfunctional family that you can sometimes even relate to and hope for a better future for them.

At the center of the story is the Roses family, a former 1% who, due to a betrayal by their manager, ended up living in a poor town somewhere off the beaten track. There they were taken in by the Schitts, the mayor Roland and his wife Jocelyn.

From the very first scenes with them, we didn't like Roland at all, he was creepy and frankly just unpleasant to look at. But the show somehow made it right and in the end there was no hatred for him, we just cringed a little sometimes and that was it.

But something terrible happened to Jocelyn over the course of the show. She started out as another weirdo, but kind of likable, a woman who seemed simple but had guts and intelligence. She was smart and could see the good in everything. Most importantly, she could make other people better, like when she encouraged Alexis in school.

But then, in the middle of the show, the writers introduced her to several absolutely nonsensical and out of character storylines that forever changed Jocelyn's character for the worse. For example, fans of the show still don't get the pregnancy thing.

She already had a grown son, and by not having another one for all these years, it seemed like one child was enough for her. Especially since there was no other storyline that hinted at the fact that they wanted one before but couldn't conceive.

So the fans are just not buying the awful character arc transition.

“Like we had someone who was getting in the weeds of political campaigning with Moira, and then we just got a woman with the WORST hairstyle and only wearing really cheap looking sweatsuits? Crying about being exhausted and left out of social activities, but in a "haha" surface level way?” Redditor kosherkenny said.

Well, with the baby came the bad haircut and the anxiety that she has to live with for at least several years until the baby grows up.

And frankly, that wasn't something we originally planned for Jocelyn. In a parallel universe, we would have liked Roland to make his wife mayor and retire. But hey, even a perfect show needs at least one anticlimactic character arc!
