Even fans agree that this was too beautiful an ending for anything to top it in the third chapter.

Summary:

  • Our Flag Means Death season 2 wrapped up, and fans — even the skeptical ones — couldn't be happier about the way things turned out
  • However, many people also believe that the final episode of season 2 looked very much like a proper series finale, so they're wondering what's next
  • HBO has not announced whether it plans to renew OFMD for season 3

Our Flag Means Death season 2 is now officially over — and frankly speaking, the finale of the second chapter was so moving and satisfying that the fandom is kind of... rooting for the show not to be renewed?

It's not the "please cancel this show already" vibe. It's the "this is all so beautifully wrapped up it feels like a proper end to the series" vibe — and honestly, not every show can pride itself on something like that.

However, OFMD still made everyone weep by getting rid of a certain someone, so if you are yet to see the finale, beware of upcoming spoilers.

Who Dies in Our Flag Means Death Season 2 Finale?

Crew, it's time to bid adieu to Izzy. Not everyone's favorite, the character still brought many fans to tears by heroically dying in Blackbeard's arms after being wounded in a fight with the British.

Many people have already noted season 3 will be hard to watch without him. Some, however, lowkey hope he comes back as a ghost; isn't it a pirate show we're watching, after all? If OFMD comes back for a third season, then Ricky just needs to be haunted by Izzy's ghost. It could also be a spinoff, you know...

Will There Be OFMD Season 3 (And Do We Even Need It)?

But, with or without Izzy, the majority of the fandom argues that Our Flag Means Death is facing a dilemma: either to go out with a bang, or continue with season 3 but somehow make it even better than what we already had.

Because, look, we had that heart-eye-emoji "happily-ever-after" for Steve and Ed, who now have a little inn on an island. We had an impactful character death. Few people in the OFMD fandom can come up with something that can top that.

And if anything, the majority would like their favorite show retiring on a happy note, just like Steve and Ed did, instead of tumbling down the Supernatural- esque rabbit hole of 15 seasons to thank for nothing.

Seems like HBO is pretty much on the same train of thought, as no official updates on whether Our Flag Means Death season 3 is happening have been provided by the network. Well, it's safe to say that the show is now in a good place anyway: if it continues, the fandom will most likely rejoice, and if it doesn't, it was the perfect note to bow out on.
