Paul Anderson was found guilty of drug possession, but his lawyer claims the actor was just “slipping into his character” to make the Peaky Blinders fans happy. What?

Summary:

  • Peaky Blinders star Paul Anderson was recently found guilty of drug possession and fined.
  • Anderson’s lawyer claimed that Anderson was merely method acting to please some fans.
  • His argument deeply amused the show’s fans who called the lawyer a “Wannabe Saul Goodman.”

Peaky Blinders, a show about the powerful gangster clan, follows the Shelby brothers on their way to control more lands, businesses, and people. The Arthur Shelby star, Paul Anderson, has admittedly become too caught-up in his character as he was recently fined for four separate cases of drug possession… In real life.

Peaky Blinders Actor Was Caught With Drugs

On Boxing Day, Paul Anderson’s manager called police on him to the pub, suspecting that his protege was indulging in drugs. The officers who arrived at the scene found several substances on the actor. In the court, Anderson pleaded guilty and was issued a fine of £1,345 or about $1,703.

Reportedly, the actor’s lawyer argued that Paul Anderson “does his best to please fans of the show by slipping into character” which was why that day, he “found himself in an unfortunate position and should have had the strength to say no.” The lawyer’s arguments fell on deaf ears since, after all, Anderson had pleaded guilty.

Fans Are Losing It Over The Lawyer’s Words

The questionable approach to defending his client used by Paul Anderson’s lawyers amused Peaky Blinders fans beyond reason. They found it hard to believe that it was a serious attempt at justifying an actor detained by police with a bunch of drugs.

“It’s called Method Man acting, Your Honor, maybe you’ve heard of it,” Reddit user Cliff_Klingenhagen quipped.

Many fans referred to Arthur Shelby star’s lawyer as a “Wannabe Saul Goodman,” ironically celebrating the ultimate Better Call Saul and Peaky Blinders crossover in real life. Others simply questioned how in the world did that person even land the job as a famous actor’s lawyer in the first place considering his unorthodox methods.

But the main takeaway from this story is that if you ever happen across Paul Anderson, maybe just ask for an autograph. Don’t ask the actor to “slip into his role” and do drugs in a pub toilet — and god forbid you ever demand a boxing match with him! Method acting is a dangerous thing, and Arthur Shelby, well, has quite a history.
