Adrien Brody, the star of The Pianist and Peaky Blinders, had the most ridiculous close brush with death, and all he could think about at that moment was his legacy.

Acting isn’t always sunshine and rainbows.

Sometimes actors have to live in unbearable conditions while filming their movies. Other times they have to undergo physical and mental torture to prepare for their roles. And sometimes they can be severely maimed or even die when working!

Adrien Brody is best known for his (honestly, immaculate) performance in 2002’s The Pianist — the biographical movie about Władysław Szpilman where he played the lead role. Brody received his first Academy Award for it at the age of 29 and became the youngest actor to hold an Oscar in the Best Actor category at the time.

He also starred in Peaky Blinders, the famous criminal drama series about Cillian Murphy ’s gangster character beautifully fooling and disposing of his various enemies. In this show, Adrien Brody played Luca Changretta — a charismatic and vengeful Italian mafia boss who came all the way to England to confront Murphy’s Tommy Shelby.

While The Pianist was taxing on the actor’s body and mind and Peaky Blinders involved quite a few shooting scenes, Brody wasn’t in mortal danger while filming them. It was his lesser-known movie The Darjeeling Limited that had the actor in a close brush with death in the most ridiculous way — and it happened all the way in India!

"I almost died. I was behind a tuk-tuk, one of those little motorized rickshaws, when the driver suddenly pulled to the side and revealed a cow walking away from me on the road. I jammed on the brakes, skidded, and nearly slammed straight into it,” Adrien Brody told Daily Mail UK.

In that moment of extreme tension, all the actor could think about was that after years of hard work, he’d be remembered as the idiot who crashed into a cow.

“I was laughing because it seemed so absurd. I was thinking, 'This is going to be the way I'll be remembered: rear-ending a cow – all the years of hard work, and this is it’," Brody shared.

Fortunately, the actor narrowly avoided the potentially fatal accident… and still, we can’t help but empathize with him. Imagine becoming the youngest Oscar holder ever and then having your entire legacy be “died because of a cow” — even this thought is as embarrassing as it gets.
