A new adaptation from one of the greatest sci-fi writers is already on its way, and what you definitely don't need to worry about is the script – it will be written by the true masters of the genre.

Philip K. Dick is probably known to all science fiction fans. One of the most distinctive writers of the 20th century, Dick significantly expanded the boundaries of the genre and showed how profound sci-fi literature can be.

Philip K. Dick wrote more than 30 novels and hundreds of short stories. Some of his works, such as Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? or The Man in the High Castle, have become the author's calling cards and have also received worthy adaptations that have entered the history of cinema.

Next on the list of adaptations is The Variable Man, from the creators of one of the most acclaimed sci-fi projects of the last decade.

What Is The Variable Man About?

In the distant future, Earth is on the brink of war with the ancient Empire of Proxima Centauri. Earth's main bet is a weapon that will blow up the enemy's main star.

But the engineers can't assemble a very small but very important block, and without it, the weapon won't work. Meanwhile, due to a mistake by historians from the Department of Historical Research, a jack-of-all-trades capable of fixing anything is transported from 1914 to the future.

Humans Writers Will Create a Script for The Variable Man Adaptation

Jonathan Brackley and Sam Vincent, the duo who wrote the script for the 2015 sci-fi series Humans, which ran for three seasons, will be responsible for the script of the adaptation of The Variable Man.

So at least there's no need to worry about the plot for the upcoming project – Humans has a 94% on Rotten Tomatoes, and the final third season received a perfect 100%.

Vincent and Brackley know how to work with material about the distant technological future, as well as the ordinary human dramas and problems that arise in that setting.

Humans Also Deals With the Distant Technological Future in the Best Tradition of the Sci-Fi Genre

The series is set in the future and tells about a new technology. Humanity uses new assistants – synths. They are androids, very similar in appearance to humans. But there is one important difference – synths do not experience emotions.

It turns out that some of the androids are now beginning to develop feelings – they feel pain, become attached to humans, and may even be able to hate.

The screenwriters did a brilliant job with such a seemingly conventional plot – even back in 2015, we have seen enough movies and TV series about the relationship between humans and the robots they created.

We can only hope that Jonathan Brackley and Sam Vincent have not lost their ability to write gripping sci-fi stories in ten years, and that we will get another worthy Philip K. Dick adaptation along with The Man in the High Castle, Minority Report and Blade Runner.
