The Anya Taylor-Joy-led miniseries remains one of Netflix’s most acclaimed projects to-date, so we better trust Quentin Tarantino’s taste.

Not everyone might be charmed by Quentin Tarantino’s quirky directorial style marked by violence and tough guys’ encounters, though his expertise in the movie and TV industry is undoubtable.

With no real cinema-related diploma, Tarantino spent his entire childhood watching movies at home and in a local theatre. Later, he got a job in a video store and watched movies there as well — which might be a reason for many to believe that Tarantino has seen most of what the industry has, if not everything.

However, even with numerous occasions when the director confessed his love for old classics, he doesn’t shy away from doing the same for much more recent releases, which also include Netflix’s hit period drama series.

  • On Rotten Tomatoes, The Queen’s Gambit holds scores of 96% and 94% from critics and viewers
  • On IMDb, the series is rates 8.5/10

Even though Tarantino considers Mike Flanagan’s The Haunting of Hill House his “favorite Netflix series, with no competition”, he was also left impressed by The Queen’s Gambit, Anya Taylor-Joy’s highly acclaimed drama miniseries released back in 2020.

Based on Walter Tevis’ 1983 novel of the same name, The Queen’s Gambit is set during the Cold War era when orphaned chess prodigy Beth Harmon has to fight her drug and alcohol addiction, as well as her own inner demons, as she strives to become the greatest chess player in the world.

Having become Netflix’s global hit just in four weeks after its initial release, the show received numerous accolades, including from the chess community that praised The Queen’s Gambit for an accurate portrayal of high-level chess competitions.

The series also went on to win eleven “Emmy” statuettes and two “Golden Globes”, including one for Taylor-Joy.

Will There Be ‘The Queen’s Gambit’ Season 2?

The show’s second season is definitely not happening as The Queen’s Gambit’s creators never changed their mind about its miniseries status and the decision to give the entire story a satisfying closure in the first instalment.

“It’s wonderful to know that people loved the show where they want to spend more time with these characters; we never envisioned it that way. We felt that the series had a satisfying endpoint and we’d allow the audience to fill in the space as to what happens next for Beth Harmon. Nothing has changed, despite fans demanding more on my Twitter feed. Scott and I feel really happy about the completeness of Beth’s story,” The Queen’s Gambit executive producer William Horberg once revealed in an interview with Deadline.
