Netflix’s anthology series has been panned by critics for years now, and even future seasons of Murphy’s show don’t look good despite a possible involvement of American Horror Story’s actress.

Creator Ryan Murphy is now the primary subject of everyone’s talks after the release of his new legal drama All’s Fair starring Kim Kardashian, but he doesn’t let audiences forget about yet another scandalous TV series.

Launched back in 2022, Murphy’s anthology show Monsters created for Netflix has garnered mostly negative reviews throughout its three seasons (which is still better than those 6% for All’s Fair on Rotten Tomatoes), though at least two more seasons about other infamous American maniacs are now in works.

Just hours ago, the news broke about Murphy bringing one of his favorite actresses back on board for Monsters’ upcoming season 4, but many think the same character’s different portrayal can never be topped.

Sarah Paulson to (Possibly) Play Aileen Wuornos in ‘Monsters’ Season 4

While the next instalment of Murphy’s crime thriller series will mostly focus on Lizzie Borden, sources like Variety suggest Paulson will likely appear in a supporting role of the real-life serial killer who was sentenced to death back in 2002.

So far, it was confirmed that Borden’s role will be played by Ella Beatty while the show’s season 3 lead Charlie Hunnam will return with a new part, portraying Lizzie’s father Andrew Jackson Borden who she killed with an axe in 1892.

Ryan Murphy’s Monsters anthology has been regarded as one of the worst TV shows of recent years, with critics pointing out the series’ distorted depiction of the real events as well as Murphy’s attempt to justify serial killers by presenting them in a more sympathetic light.

Aileen Wuornos’s Earlier Portrayal Can’t Be Topped by Sarah Paulson, Viewers Say

Even though American Horror Story’s actress has received a ton of accolades for her previous works (which, however, can’t be said about her role in Murphy’s now even more infamous All’s Fair), the news about Paulson being in final talks for Aileen Wuornos’s role in Monsters was met with a fair share of scepticism.

On Reddit, many users brought up Charlize Theron’s 2003 movie Monster where she portrayed the infamous killer and eventually received an Academy Award for the role.

“Charlize killed it, that performance cannot be topped”, GeneralInspector8962 stated.

“Charlize Theron in Monster is a performance that's practically impossible to beat. Also I doubt Ryan Murphy will do the real story any justice”, BothRequirement2826 agreed.

“Great, more aesthetic slop about serial killers from Ryan Murphy, can’t wait. I’m sure both the calibre of the performances and the ineptitude of the storytelling will be captivating”, blackbanner88 ranted.

Monsters’ season 4 will be released sometime next year.
