Secret Invasion’s second episode has yet to drop, but fans are already theorizing about the future of the MCU.

Secret Invasion has just premiered, sending Nick Fury off on another dangerous mission to save the world – this time, from the rebel Skrulls. Their leader Gravik is the MCU ’s newest bad guy, and he seems to be going out of his way to destroy humanity. You know, the way villains usually do?

One Reddit user proposed an outrageous theory: what if Gravik is a secret agent sent by HYDRA? Currently, Gravik is just the leader of the rebel Skrull group that has turned on Fury and all of S.H.I.E.L.D. for failing to find a new home for the Skrulls. Not that it justifies killing so many people, though.

Still, Gravik might not have come up with the idea of taking over Earth and wiping out all the humans all by himself. He might have been given a nudge by none other than HYDRA itself. HYDRA may still be alive and kicking in the MCU, and Gravik may be just the latest in a long line of secret agents messing stuff up for everyone.

Another theory suggests that Gravik himself could be the new leader of HYDRA in whatever form the organization has taken these days. Or maybe he isn’t even that, and the real big guy is just around the corner. Either way, HYDRA is all about shape-shifting, and who better to represent that than the Skrulls, who can literally take on the identity of anyone they want?

The Reddit user even has a few ideas on who else the new HYDRA head could be. How about the Kingpin? He is still alive, and he has the resources to pull something like this off. You don’t become a powerful crime lord for nothing!

Perhaps, it’s General Thaddeus Ross instead. He is rumored to be a pretty important character in Marvel’s Phase 5, and he was once the President of the United States in the comics. A powerful man like him could easily be the next director of HYDRA.

We might find all of that out soon enough. The second episode premieres this Wednesday on Disney+.
