Things may have become more intriguing for Todd, but not for Susan.

So Help Me Todd has recently got blacklisted just like some other successful CBS projects as the show was officially canceled by the network earlier this year for no particular reason.

Fans were quick to show that they’re more than ready to strike back and do everything to bring their favorite series back to the screen, but so far it doesn’t seem like their petition, though it garnered lots of supporters, is going to change CBS bosses’ mind.

With So Help Me Todd’s quite slim chances to ever get revived, the show’s creators now have no reason to hide what the future was supposed to hold for the next season, and one of the characters actually owes their salvation to the series’ cancellation.

What Is So Help Me Todd About?

Starring Marcia Gay Harden and Skylar Astin as mother and her misguided son, So Help Me Todd follows private investigator Todd whose carefree life eventually brings him a lot of trouble and forces his mother Margaret, a successful defense attorney herself, to hire him for working in her law firm.

Throughout the show’s 2-season-long run, it becomes clear that Todd now also gets to work side by side with his ex-girlfriend from college, Susan, portrayed by Inga Schlingmann.

The latter’s storyline proves that after ending her rocky relationship with Todd that wouldn’t work out anyway, Susan finds herself in a much better place in life, having a successful career in Margaret’s company and being happy in a healthy relationship with a man named Peter who she’s also engaged to.

However good Susan’s position appears to be, she still tends to make things worse for herself as the whole storyline has repeatedly hinted at Susan’s desire to rekindle her romance with Todd.

Creator Reveals His Thoughts on Susan's Future

So Help Me Todd’s season 2 had fans divided in their opinion about who Susan eventually should choose, though the show’s creator has recently confirmed that the next potential installment that was scrapped by CBS wouldn’t bring good news for those who wanted Susan to end up with Peter.

Talking about So Help Me Todd’s season 2 finale and its cliffhanger that is now doomed to stay in the air forever, the show’s creator Scott Prendergast revealed that things were supposed to get more specific about Todd and Susan’s relationship in the next season.

According to him, the idea was to initially put Todd up with his current love interest Judy, portrayed by Heather Morris, but the latter would eventually move to Thailand, so Todd would then recognise his feelings for Susan and get back together with her.

Such a turn of events isn’t exactly what Susan’s fans would wish for her, as it was pretty clear that Todd had much less to offer her than her mature and responsible fiancé Peter, let alone the fact that Todd and Susan once already broke up due to their incompatibility.

However harsh it may sound for everyone who still wants So Help Me Todd get back to the screen, the show’s cancellation is actually a blessing in disguise for Susan who was quite literally saved from ending up with Todd.
