Doesn’t look like a smooth start.

Summary:

  • Back in 2023, Suits became a prime example of how any TV show can have a renaissance by being exposed to a large streaming audience.
  • News of the spinoff's greenlight hit the internet like a wildfire, but the more updates on the sequel, the more eyebrows are raised.
  • The future star of the series, Stephen Amell, admits to not knowing the original show, raising even more concerns.

When approaching a beloved and widely known TV show, novel, or movie with the intention of living off its legacy and continuing or reviving the story in any way, the team must be very cautious of all the risks. Fans of the original story will always prefer to pretend the bad second part didn't happen than to pay any attention to it.

Many believe that this is the part that the production of the Suits spin-off, Suits: L.A., hadn't thought of before the show was greenlit. Starting with an unusual network choice, NBC, followed by an even more unusual finale, the show has managed to surprise fans more than once, but none of those surprises have been pleasant so far.

It doesn't look like that's going to change anytime soon.

Suits: L.A Casting Controversy

While some people weren't thrilled with the idea of the CW superhero actor taking on the serious role of a high-powered attorney, others weren't so thrilled with Stephen Amell's stance on the WGA and SAG AFTRA strikes that took place in 2023.

If one thing is certain, the Internet never forgets those who cross the line in the fight for justice.

Still, in order to enjoy the show when it comes out, fans may want to set aside any prejudices surrounding the main character. However, the first comment the actor has made about the show so far doesn't sound too promising. Speaking to Deadline, Amell admitted that he had no idea what he was getting into at first:

“I’m trying to focus on what is directly in front of me, and what’s directly in front of me is a pilot script with more words per page than I have said in my entire career, by a factor of five. <...> I hadn’t seen the original, and I’m familiarizing myself because I think certain shows, they’ll have a syntax to them,” the actor explained.

Although Amell is definitely doing his homework and studying the original series, this revelation doesn’t add any confidence to those who already passed some judgment on the fact of him being cast as a lead. Still, the actor noted that he’s really enjoying the show, so you can take it as a promise he’ll do his best to do it justice.

No matter what your stance is on Suits: L.A. casting so far, the show is worth giving a try to, if you have loved the original series. So far, the filming hasn’t started, so keep an eye out for more news and behind-the-scenes updates to be the first one to find out about the premiere.

Until then, Suits is available for streaming on Netflix.
