Stephen King New Adaptation Is Already a Certified Rotten Tomatoes Hit Ahead of February Premiere
The new horror comedy already received praise from King too.
Still a couple of weeks away from finally arriving at the theatres, a new movie based on Stephen King ’s story is already about to enter the list of the author’s best adaptations to-date.
Directed by another master of horror Osgood Perkins, The Monkey based on King’s 1980 short story of the same name is already a critical darling with early favorable reviews praising the new film’s special approach to blending two completely different genres.
Additionally, even King himself didn’t stay aside and shared a short review agreeing with what others say. Now that The Monkey is set to show how it will perform with the audiences, the upcoming flick has just landed an impressive score that might tempt someone to buy that movie ticket after all.
The Monkey Lands a Promising RT Score Weeks Before Theatrical Release
According to Rotten Tomatoes, the movie, which is set to hit the screens on February 21, has so far garnered a score of 90% based on 21 published reviews.
It’s not a solid number though, since the movie’s rating is still expected to change once more reviews will start coming in, but that’s already quite a big success for a flick that the audience has no idea about yet.
However, some might have already delved into the matter preparing themselves for an exciting watch, and this is exactly what early reviews suggested. Many critics praised Perkins’ take on King’s story, now coming to the screens as a blend of horror and comedy; Stephen King also chimed in, stating that The Monkey is a completely new cinematic experience and calling it “bat—it insane”.
The Monkey Is a Terrifying Story with a Star-Studded Cast
The upcoming movie stars The White Lotus and The Gentlemen ’s actor Theo James in a double role and follows twin brothers who stumble upon their father’s vintage toy monkey in their house’s attic.
The seemingly harmless finding sets up a chain of horrendous events, resulting in several gruesome deaths of the brothers’ family members and friends; it’s then when they decide to get rid of the cursed toy, but the monkey somehow comes back to their life.
Confronted by the supernatural outcome of the events, the brothers will have to face consequences of their actions and destroy the toy once and for all. The movie also features Elijah Wood, Sarah Levy, Tatiana Maslany and Ronan Campbell in the leading roles.
