Stormtrooper-Led Star Wars Show Is a Recipe for Success, and Here’s Why

The success of Tony Gilroy's critically acclaimed Andor TV series proved that dark and grounded stories can not only exist in the Star Wars franchise, but feel like a breath of fresh air compared to the tired Jedi stories.

While the latest addition to the Star Wars TV series, Ahsoka, turned out to be quite good as well, it still didn't feel nearly as original as Andor, making fans even more eager to see the second season of Cassian's adventures.

Sadly, it will be the last for the series, and while it is unknown if we ever get anything like it in the future, a very simple and even more unique idea for the "next Andor" is hiding in plain sight.

For some reason, Star Wars rarely shows us the villains' point of view, and considering that Andor already used the concept to some extent with Dedra Meero and Syril Karn's storylines, a TV show about a Stormtrooper could be a great way to give the franchise a new life.

Gilroy's project didn't shy away from some pretty dark themes of oppression and even war crimes, so a similarly gritty show about a character who recently joined the Imperial Army only to discover that things aren't as the propaganda made them out to be could be an incredible success if done right.

Taking inspiration from such great anti-war masterpieces as Full Metal Jacket (1987), Jarhead (2005), and All Quiet on the Western Front (2022), it could provide the much-needed insight into the perspective of Imperial soldiers, hundreds of whom are regularly killed by the "good guys" in Star Wars.

We already got a small taste of this in Solo: A Star Wars Story, when Han fought for the Empire in the trenches on the planet Mimban, which was a truly brilliant sequence in an otherwise mediocre movie.

So having a TV show (because let's face it, no one's going to take that risk with a feature film) explore this idea seems like a recipe for success, as many fans have been clamoring for such a project for years.

And who knows, if the second season of Andor gains enough viewers, we might see a show like this sometime in the future.
