Fans can only guess, and that is exacltly what we'll do!

Of all the characters in Game of Thrones, Tyrion Lannister seemed like the one who could cheat fate. A dwarf, a mocker, an outcast in his own family — he survived it all: massacres, intrigues, executions and betrayals. And he lived to see the finale.

Moreover, he ended up at the throne. A happy ending, I guess? No. Tyrion's finale is actually one of the most bitter in the series. Here's why.

Survived the fire, but burned from the inside

The final episodes of season eight show Tyrion devastated. First, he loses the brother and sister he tried to save — Jaime and Cersei are literally buried under the rubble of their former power.

Then he realizes that he bet on the wrong queen: his decision to serve Daenerys turns into mass murder. In despair, he throws the Hand's brooch into the ruins — and ends up in a dungeon, where he is preparing for execution.

But instead of execution — a new Hand. The new king is Bran. And Tyrion is back in the saddle. Only now it all doesn't have the same taste.

Why he didn't want to become king

When he is directly offered the throne, Tyrion refuses. And this is not an act of nobility. It is a gesture of deep disappointment. He realizes that he has too many mistakes behind him: Daenerys' betrayal, the death of the Lannisters, failures in politics.

He no longer believes that he is worthy of ruling. And also - he is simply tired. Tired of fighting, proving, saving. And he chose to be in the shadows — not a hero, but an advisor.

His future is not power, but punishment

Tyrion's further life is constant work without joy. He tries to keep the Six Kingdoms from falling apart, smooth over conflicts, patch up the cracks in Westeros, where too much blood has been spilled in too short a time.

But at the same time, he remains alone. No family, no love, no legacy. He is the last Lannister. And the only thing he has left is memory. Of Jaime. Of Tysha. Of Shae. Of Daenerys. Memory and guilt.

His ending is silence and books

If you imagine how Tyrion's story ends, then most likely it will be quiet. He lives out his days as the Hand, with a glass of wine and an ink pen. Writing memoirs. Trying to explain where he went wrong. And why everything happened exactly this way.
