Ted Lasso Can’t Hold a Candle to This Unfairly Panned Sports Sitcom

It's mind-boggling to me how this hilariously absurd comedy got this much criticism. But critics don't always get it right, do they?
We all have those days when the world seems like it's conspiring against you. You were late for work or your phone died at the worst time possible. Whatever it is, you need a distraction. And sitcoms have been my go-to escape on these kinds of days.
I've binged many shows, but the one I'm going to talk about — Blue Mountain State — takes the cake when it comes to underappreciated sitcoms. Despite its abysmal critical score, I highly recommend you give it a chance. Here’s why.
Blue Mountain State (2010-2011) Is a True Classic Worth Watching
I am honestly so jealous of anyone who can experience Blue Mountain State for the first time ever.
This is the quirky sports comedy that follows the misadventures of the football team at University of Blue Mountain State. Already thinking that you've seen it done a million times before? Breathing in to tell me that Ted Lasso has already given us enough of that?
Well, it could've been like any other show if it wasn't so refreshingly self-aware and completely over-the-top in the best way possible.
What Does the Audience Think About Blue Mountain State?
-
On Rotten Tomatoes, Blue Mountain State has 13% from critics (the first season is the only one that got a rating) and 83% from the audience overall.
-
On IMDb, Blue Mountain State is rated 8.3/10.
“BMS is one of the funniest [shows] I watched through my college career. It was lowkey relatable but exaggerated in a funny way. Great show, too bad it didn’t continue,” Redditor megapillowcase shared.
Despite a majority of critics absolutely tearing BMS to shreds, there's one who actually appreciated it. Mark A. Perigard (Boston Herald) wrote:
“Romano and Falconer honed their snark on such shows as South Park and The Sarah Silverman Program, so they know how to spin a dirty joke. But they also show mastery of the half-hour sitcom format.”
Trust Me, Blue Mountain State Is Not as Bad as Critics Paint It to Be
I know what you're thinking: why should I watch a show that's got absolutely destroyed by critics? Well, I've always believed that it's better to trust the audience in these types of dilemmas. And this time the audience is obsessed.
Blue Mountain State absolutely embraces its absurdity. Yes, the characters are over-the-top. Yes, the situations are ridiculous. But most importantly, it's just straight-up fun to watch.
