The Bear season 5 release date and episode count: the final season gives the restaurant one last service to survive
Five seasons, 46 episodes, and the whole ending takes place in a single rainy Chicago day.
The Bear season 5 — the final one — premiered June 25, 2026, with all eight episodes dropping at once on Hulu (and on Disney+ internationally), while FX ran it weekly on linear through the finale on August 6. Eight episodes is the headline number: two fewer than seasons 2 through 4, and a deliberate return to the shape of season 1. The structure shrank along with the count. The entire season takes place over one day, the morning after the season 4 finale — Carmy (Jeremy Allen White) has quit the food industry and left the restaurant to Sydney (Ayo Edebiri), Richie, and Sugar, and the race for a Michelin star is the last service standing between The Bear and the lights going out.
Christopher Storer runs the final season alone and directs every episode but one. The episode titles are all food, single words — "Soda," "Lamb," "Mint," "Ribs," "Raspberries," "Focaccia," "Caramel" — until the finale, which is called "The Original Beef of Chicagoland." The show ends under the name of the sandwich shop it started as, which is the most Storer way imaginable to say the story is a closed loop.

That's 46 regular episodes, 47 with "Gary," at a mean runtime of about 35 minutes — the shortest episode runs 20 minutes, the longest 70. A comfortable two-week binge, or one very intense weekend.
The show leaves behind an Emmy ledger nobody in comedy has matched: 23 nominations in a single year, breaking 30 Rock's record, and 11 wins in a single season, breaking its own.

Is it actually over?
The official answer is yes, confirmed in May 2026. The honest answer has more doors left ajar than FX's messaging suggests. Back in 2024, FX chief John Landgraf told Variety the show's lifespan was never a network decision:
"It's about, how much more story does he have to tell?"

And Storer has already demonstrated what a return could look like without being a season. "Gary" appeared out of nowhere as a self-contained prequel, months before the finale, proving the show can do one-off check-ins whenever its creator feels like it. White and Edebiri have both told Bustle they'd listen if Storer called with an idea. Nobody is announcing a spinoff; everybody is carefully not ruling one out.
The Bear premiered a new season every June for five straight years. Next June is the first real test of whether "final" meant final.
