‘The Big Bang Theory’ New Spinoff Finally Jumps on OG Show’s Biggest Missed Opportunity

The Big Bang Theory’s most important theme wasn’t developed at all, but Stuart Fails to Save the Universe has a chance to fix this — Chuck Lorre explains how.
After expanding its universe with more mundane spinoff series like Young Sheldon and Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage, The Big Bang Theory is finally getting a sci-fi-coded sequel show. And it might be even better than the original series in at least one aspect.
The Big Bang Theory’s new future instalment titled Stuart Fails to Save the Universe will centre on Kevin Sussman’s comic book store owner Stuart Bloom as he navigates through life hardships alongside his girlfriend Denise and scientist friends from Cal-Tech.
Even though Stuart might be way farther from science than Sheldon or Leonard, the spinoff will still be faithful to its sci-fi main theme thanks to a technological update, according to The Big Bang Theory’s creator Chuck Lorre.
‘Stuart Fails to Save the Universe’ Will Have “a Lot of CGI”, Chuck Lorre Says
While the original TV series couldn’t boast of sophisticated technological decisions since it was released back in 2007, the show’s successor definitely has better chances to introduce scenes all the way more impressive than that.
“There’s a lot of CGI. There’s a lot of special technical stuff that — you know, for me in my career, a big production number was two people sitting on a couch, drinking coffee! This is different. This is trying to incorporate some of that world of science fiction/fantasy into a comedy. And I’m completely out of my element, which is what I wanted. Which is what I was hoping to do, something that I had no experience with. And maybe I can learn as we go”, Lorre said in an interview with Variety recently.
The creator also added that the superhero stories will definitely become the show’s other main theme thanks to writer Zak Penn “who’s written a lot of gigantic, big time Marvel kind of movies with superheroes and things”.
‘The Big Bang Theory’ Fans Want One More Character to Come Back in ‘Stuart Fails to Save the Universe’
With the upcoming show now officially centring on The Big Bang Theory’s outcasts that never got as much attention as they deserved, the original series’ fans are eager to see whether Chuck Lorre will add one more side character to the story.
“Figure out a way to get Zack in there too and I’ll watch for 12 seasons”, a Redditor urged in a show-related thread, referring to Penny’s on-an-off boyfriend in the show’s first seasons.
“I kinda want a spin off of that one episode where Stuart, Kripke, and Zack hung out in the apartment, they seem like they would be a fun group, definitely make for interesting dynamics too”, Stickmin69 suggested in a different thread.
