It's a painfully relatable, witty, and unexpectedly touching story about the difficulty of accepting the dark side of a loved one.

Kristoffer Borgli's The Drama, starring Robert Pattinson and Zendaya, has become one of the most talked about releases. Viewers are discussing it on social media, arguing about the ending, and quoting the most awkward scenes.

But amid all the hype, it's easy to lose sight of the main question: is this truly a good film, or just another trendy phenomenon?

Spoiler alert: it's worth a watch. Borgli, who gave us the disturbing Sick of Myself and the absurd Dream Scenario, reaches his peak here, filming a near-point-of-view blog of a man on the verge of a nervous breakdown.

What Is 'The Drama' About?

Charlie and Emma are about to get married. First, however, they must complete the obligatory pre-wedding tasks: dance rehearsals, photos, and choosing bouquets.

At a spirits-tasting party with their friends Rachel and Mike, they decide to play an old game where each person shares the worst thing they've ever done. Emma wins – but at what cost?

Her confession angers her friend, and Charlie begins to see his bride in a different light. In the coming days, he'll have to decide if this marriage is worth it.

Kristoffer Borgli Is a Master of Anxiety and Awkwardness – in 'The Drama' He Brings Them to Their Peak

Kristoffer Borgli is a master of anxiety and neurosis. Every scene in The Drama is a roller coaster of cringe and awkwardness that is painfully recognizable. When Charlie first meets Emma, he starts Googling the book she's reading to create the impression of a smart guy.

Later, there are more attempts: firing the DJ, having a wedding photo shoot the day after a heated argument, and making drunken toasts at the table.

Borgli speaks to modern viewers in a language they understand – the editing in The Drama is sharp, conveying the nervous pace of the city and the main character's inner state.

However, Borgli doesn't overdo it – he constantly defuses the tension with absurd jokes. After all, with each passing second, the characters lose control of themselves and their words.

Beneath 'The Drama's Nearly Thriller-Like Veneer Lies a Message About Accepting Your Partner for Who They Are

Emma's secret, revealed in the first third of the movie, is truly terrifying – not a harmless prank, but an unflinching act. Therefore, The Drama is not just a comedy of awkwardness, but a true drama, as the title promises – a conflict between two irreconcilable points of view.

The movie asks viewers serious questions: do our actions in our youth define who we really are? Does a person change when we discover an unpleasant fact about a loved one, or is that the same person we fell in love with?

The Drama is a film that will make you want to hug your partner tighter and forgive them for all their little – and not-so-little – secrets.
