Not everything makes a lot of sense even in The Handmaid’s Tale’s deep plot line — here’s what fans might have found weird so far.

Hulu ’s The Handmaid’s Tale has been a major hit all along, but there are some inconsistencies you just can’t ignore even when the drama goes high.

Based on Margaret Atwood’s 1985 novel of the same name, the series has its events unfolding in a dystopian world where women have no freedom under the rule of Gilead’s totalitarian regime.

However, the series has plenty of mistakes. Here are some of the worst ones.

Everyone in Gilead Depends on Women, but Their Health Problems Are Ignored

It’s safe to say that pretty much everything in the dystopian country revolves around women, even if they aren’t really considered people with free will.

In Gilead, it’s women who are all about housekeeping, giving birth to children and then raising them for the society’s better future, and even then they’re denied basic healthcare.

The best example for this is Emily who in flashbacks to her life before Gilead is constantly seen wearing glasses, but in Gilead she just can’t get them.

Such a plot twist just doesn’t fit right, considering that women are obliged to fulfill their responsibilities even if they can’t hear, see or do whatever other thing due to their health problems.

Silencing Handmaids Doesn’t Seem to Work Properly Either

Even though things are pretty bad for all Handmaids in the show, for some of them everything is even worse.

While on a trip with the Waterfords, Elizabeth Moss’ June meets another handmaid whose mouth is literally shut with three metal rings, not allowing her to utter a single word.

This doesn’t sit right with the whole idea of the handmaids since they’re the ones who are forced to do everything they can to carry a healthy baby — how is that even possible if the handmaid isn’t allowed to get normal food to keep her body healthy?

Karma Is Never There for Serena Joy Waterford

Even with all doubts about her role in Gilead she’s struggling with, Serena is The Handmaid’s Tale’s ultimate villain who repeatedly comes off clear from whatever malicious deed she carried out.

Serena is the one who helped build the dystopian world that tortures other women and even makes her go through lots of ordeals too, but the more she proceeds to even more violent acts, the more she seems to be untouchable.

Even with Serena’s high position, this whole thing seems not just unfair and discriminatory, but also pointless and even unrealistic.

Serena Also Finds a Friend in June, but She Doesn’t Deserve It

The whole point about Serena is clear — she’s probably the first person in Gilead to never have anyone’s trust again.

This was kept as some kind of tendency until season 5 where June and Serena start bonding over their common intention to take care of Serena’s newborn child.

The next instalment goes even further, showing June trying to keep Serena away from a train full of raged refugees whose lives will never be the same after Gilead.

The Handmaid’s Tale fans have been vocal about the show’s fallacious decision to build a redemption arc for Serena — which she clearly doesn’t deserve at all.

Somehow, June Is Allowed Much More Than Other Handmaids

While in Atwood’s novel Offred is much more reserved and obedient, The Handmaid’s Tale’s June is probably the most rebellious person out there.

Throughout the show’s 6 seasons, she has been nothing but Gilead’s biggest trouble, causing unrest among other handmaids, helping some of them escape and, more frequently, just not following the basic rules.

However, June is never punished for her misdeeds in the same way that other handmaids are punished for minor faults.

Had a different handmaid tried to do the same as June, she would have been dead just like that, but somehow June has been too lucky to avoid all the problems, and it doesn’t really feel right.
