The Last of Us S2 E3: Who Killed the Seraphites? Theories & Game Connections, Explained

The Last of Us’ episode 3 set up an upcoming fierce fight between two most radical groups in the game’s universe, but the ones behind a major massacre of the Seraphites remain a mystery. The show’s next episode might give a pretty obvious answer though.
The Last of Us might have just lost Pedro Pascal ’s Joel, but the story continues with potentially even fiercer clashes which might involve both Ellie and Abby.
The show’s latest episode teased another point of no return in the ongoing war between the Seraphites and the Washington Liberation Front, with the latter’s tanks flooding abandoned streets of Seattle.
However, another shocking scene is an even louder statement of scary things that are about to happen, even though the series is yet to prove who has slain a whole group of the Seraphites moving across the woods.
Who Is Behind That Brutal Massacre of the Seraphites in Season 2 Episode 3?
In the episode, Ellie and Dina stumble upon a bunch of dead bodies of the Seraphites somewhere in the woods on their way to Seattle.
While Dina is distracted by a gag reflex, Ellie analyses the scene, coming to a conclusion that the Seraphites were killed with different types of weapons, which most likely points at the WLF’s presence there.
This will probably turn out to be true in The Last of Us’ next episode, since both the WLF and the Seraphites haven’t reached Seattle yet and that’s why could potentially ambush each other anywhere else.
On top of that, the WLF does seem to be armed way better than the Seraphites, which is also confirmed by the latter’s attempts to not make noise by crossing the woods.
They likely know the WLF is somewhere not far, which is a reason to care about each of their movements, though it’s still surprising to see the Seraphites even considering a fight with the WLF with not many weapons to leverage.
What Happens to the Seraphites and the WLF in The Last of Us Video Game (Spoiler Alert!)
The tension between two groups rises in The Last of Us Part II, and by the time Ellie arrives in Seattle the Seraphites and the WLF are in an open war.
Abby, in her turn, initially joins the WLF, but soon finds it difficult to deal with all the harsh methods the group uses; she later abandons the WLF and tries to find ways to not have her paths crossed with either of the parties, leaving for California with the former Seraphites Yara and Lev.
In the meantime, the war between the Seraphites and the WLF goes on as Ellie and Abby chase one after another, eventually resulting in both groups’ major losses and inevitable downfall.
