The Melt-in-Your-Mouth Secret: These Simple 5-Ingredient Sugar Cookies Are Pure Nostalgia
We bet you’ll go back to your carefree childhood in just 20 minutes.
Some recipes may come and go, but others will stay in our hearts forever. In many countries, it was (and still is) some kind of tradition to bake the simplest sugar cookies just for having fun and then getting some snack for a movie or game night.
If you’ve been feeling a bit nostalgic about the past years recently, this recipe for the same traditional cookies will likely boost your mood.
Ingredients: 2 cups of water, 200 g sugar, 50 g butter, 320 g flour + a little extra for rolling out the dough, 1 tsp of baking powder, 1 tsp of vanilla sugar.
Prepare the dough for the sugar cookies. Pour the sugar (150 g) into a saucepan and cover with water. Place over high heat and bring to a boil, stirring constantly. Skim off the foam.
Remove the sugar syrup from the heat. Cut the butter into small cubes. Add to the sugar syrup and stir until dissolved. Let it cool to room temperature.
Sift the flour and baking powder through a fine sieve into a bowl. Add the mixture to the warm syrup and butter along with the vanilla sugar, and knead the dough. It should not be too stiff.
Shape it into a ball, wrap in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for 30 minutes. Then remove it and place it on a work surface dusted with flour. Gently knead it with your hands.
Roll out the dough to a thickness of about 5 mm. Shake off any excess flour and sprinkle the remaining sugar evenly over the dough. Then, using a fluted rolling pin, roll over the dough, applying light pressure.
Preheat the oven to 200°C. Cut out shapes of any form from the dough. Transfer them to a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Place it on the middle rack of the oven and bake for 10 minutes.
