When we tell you that a new period drama is coming out, what do you think of? You might imagine a gritty war story or, on the other hand, one of those light-hearted shows about the lavish lifestyles of the wealthy of the day like Bridgerton or The Gilded Age that we all love so much.

But Apple TV Plus has made sure that their new period drama will make you forget everything you ever watched before. The New Look is a new series created by Todd A. Kessler and inspired by real-life events.

At the heart of the show is a powerful story that took place around the time of World War II. It focuses on two legendary designers, Christian Dior and Coco Chanel, and the harsh realities they faced during the war.

Fashion and history are much closer than you might think, and the series proves it with its stories. We get to see how similarly difficult, yet completely different, the lives of Chanel and Dior were during the war, and what measures they had to take to manage their businesses.

It’s important that the viewers realize how hard it was for Paris during World War II Nazi occupation to maintain the title of the city of style. While Chanel decided to close all of her shops and not to engage with the Nazis, Dior took extreme measures and decided to continue working for them. However, both these decisions will bring them close to moral failure afterwards when the war ends.

The amazing performances by Ben Mendelsohn as Christian Dior and Juliette Binoche as Coco Chanel are another thing that makes the series so powerful and beautiful. They managed to capture on screen the tension and chemistry between their characters, which in many ways was a driving force for both of them to continue the successful journey to the top of the industry.

Another character that deserves all the attention is Catherine Dior. In the series she is played by Maisie Williams and we can't stress enough how great she is in the role of a young powerful woman captured by the Nazis.

The first episodes of the series were released on Apple TV Plus on February 14, but the viewers already are taken away with its brilliance.
