I Found the Pamela Anderson Movie Swifties Think Inspired “The Life of a Showgirl”

Many pop cultural references emerged since Taylor Swift announced her new era, and last year’s hit drama movie seems to be one of those.
It’s all about hints and clues when it comes to the inspiration for Taylor Swift’s albums, and this doesn’t exclude the movie industry.
The singer has just announced her twelfth album titled “The Life of a Showgirl” set to be released on October 3, and it seems like Taylor might have borrowed something from another big star that made the whole place shimmer back in 2024.
Upon the announcement, Swift’s fans were quick to bring up tens of possible references, including Pamela Anderson’s role in Gia Coppola’s movie The Last Showgirl.
On X, a user posted a pic of Anderson’s character Shelly Gardner all dressed in pink and orange, which are the exact combination of colours used for stylising Taylor Swift’s “The Life of a Showgirl”.
However, this might be just one of many more possible inspiration sources that include Swift’s own experience on The Eras Tour.
Taylor Swift Says The Eras Tour’s “Exuberant and Electric Experience” Inspired Her New Album
It’s safe to say the singer has had a couple of opportunities to reflect on her biggest tour yet (and the biggest tour in history) in her previous album, “The Tortured Poets Department”, released in April last year, but with “The Life of a Showgirl” this seems to be coming into full circle.
As Taylor Swift revealed during her appearance on the New Heights podcast hosted by her boyfriend Travis Kelce, the upcoming album is meant to “glamorize all the aspects of how the tour felt”.
“This album is about what was going on behind the scenes in my inner life during this tour, which was so exuberant and electric and vibrant. It just comes from like the most infectiously joyful, wild, dramatic place I was in my life”, the singer added.
‘The Last Showgirl’ Gia Coppola Says She “Couldn’t Take No For an Answer” From Pamela Anderson
Despite Anderson staying away from the big screen for many years, The Last Showgirl’s director Gia Coppola knew her movie was meant to bring the actress back to the spotlight she deserved — this, however, didn’t happen just as fast as Coppola expected.
According to the latter, she had to go through a rejection from Anderson’s agent to get to the actress through her son, Brandon.
“She’s a beautiful writer and a person that had a lot of vulnerability and similarities to Shelly. She was itching to express herself in a different way that would make it exciting to work with her. I didn’t know her at all, so I went to her agent at the time but got turned down within an hour. A record time of rejection”, Coppola said in an interview with Interview Magazine back in January.
She then added that she “couldn’t take no for an answer” and suggested Brandon reads the script first, to which he replied that his famous mom had already read it before.
“When we talked, she was selling herself to me and I was like, “No, no. I want you to do this project. I’m trying to sell myself to you.” It cut all the fat and we were able to execute straight into the project”, Coppola stated.
