There's a real-life reason for the most cringe-worthy pairing in the Teen Wolf movie, and you probably don't want to know it.

Why do characters get together in stories in the first place? Is it because they've been through a lot together, they have chemistry, or their romance would make a lot of sense for the rest of the plot? Well, when it comes to Teen Wolf: The Movie, the reasons are much more down-to-earth.

Fans were upset that Malia and Parrish got together in the movie, seemingly just to have a steamy scene together and have virtually no impact on the plot. But there was actually a reason.

As Shelley Hennig revealed in an interview with TV Line, she requested a nude scene for her character in the movie because she wanted some extra motivation to hit the gym and eat right.

"And I guess Ryan [Kelley] had said the same thing, so Jeff's thinking, 'Oh, I'll put them together!'" Hennig said.

Yeah, you got that right: Teen Wolf creator Jeff Davis decided to make Malia and Parrish a thing solely because the actors wanted their nude scenes to make them cut their carbs.

Hennig, however, noted that Davis satisfied their request for a nude scene with a little too much padding.

"But I didn't say I wanted a love interest, I didn't say I wanted to have sex on camera, I didn't say I wanted to be naked with someone else. I just wanted to be naked alone in the woods," she said.

Teen Wolf fans didn't appreciate the sex scene much, calling it a "jump scare" and saying they were "traumatized" by the new pairing.

"Him and Malia made no sense whatsoever, like they dumbed down two powerful bada** characters to make them nothing more than love interests and sex symbols," Twitter user tiptoehale said.

Well, at least the actors got what they wanted, and everyone (except the fandom) is happy.

Teen Wolf: The Movie is available for streaming on Paramount Plus.
