The Umbrella Academy's Biggest Mystery Will Disappoint Viewers No Matter What

Although The Umbrella Academy is filled with many characters and twists that are fun to explore on their own, one of the biggest mysteries of the series remains unsolved.

The death of Ben Hargreaves, who the audience never even got a chance to meet in real time because he died years before the events of season 1, is supposed to be the key mystery that the audience should be dying to know. That was the case for the first few seasons, but then the story started to get old.

After Netflix revealed that season 4 will be the last for The Umbrella Academy in August 2022, the decision to drag out the mystery for so long started to look even more questionable. Many viewers are wondering if the answer they will get will live up to at least half of their expectations.

The audience's knowledge about the circumstances of Ben's death is very limited, as there hasn't been a proper story told yet. All we know so far is that Ben died while on the mission with his siblings, and now they all have to deal with the guilt.

By learning a little more about Ben and his personality through his every appearance through the connection with Klaus, the directors made the audience more invested in his fate.

Now the stakes are higher than ever to do justice to his story. Leaving it all to the final season was a bold but very risky decision.

Adding artificially created tension to all the problems that the industry is facing today, in the midst of the writers' strike, does not paint a very promising picture of the series’ future.

Of course, fans can still hope for a finale that does The Umbrella Academy justice, but that hope is fading with each passing day.
