If you’ve been occasionally asking yourself, “Aren’t they pulling all these shows toward a huge crossover?” while watching TWD lately, you were absolutely right.

Summary:

  • Over the years, The Walking Dead franchise has spawned numerous spin-offs and sequels and separated its original characters.
  • The latest parts of the standalone shows imply that their characters could all meet in one place for a huge crossover.
  • The Walking Dead’s CCO Scott Gimple claims that such a crossover has been his dream for years now and he’s been carefully setting it up.

Having premiered all the way back in 2010, The Walking Dead swiftly took over the reins from other contemporary shows and became a worldwide hit. TWD rather quickly turned from a singular series into a franchise, branching out in multiple spin-offs, sequels, and standalone shows now known as The Walking Dead Universe.

Throughout the years, the number of these shows kept growing, but now it seems like they’re all reaching toward one point — the point where they’ll all soon meet.

The Walking Dead Might Do The Ultimate Crossover

The characters from Fear The Walking Dead, World Beyond, Dead City, Daryl Dixon, and The Ones Who Live are closer to crossing paths with each other than ever, and all it takes is a little push and shove for them to end up in the same city. Such a massive-scale crossover sounds wild, but is actually the goal of TWD’s writers.

“I do have dreams of merging this all together, and I have laid little breadcrumbs toward that. <...> I will just say that I’m building those pathways, but there could be all sorts of pivots along the way that change it. So I guess the answer [to the question about the potential big crossover] is yes,” Scott Gimple, the CCO for The Walking Dead, shared with TVLine.

The Walking Dead Universe Crossover Must Be Huge

While Gimple himself isn’t sure whether the ultimate crossover will be made or not, one thing is crystal clear: if they embark on this journey, it’ll have to be huge. The main characters of most spin-off and sequel shows all started together in The Walking Dead, so the grand reunion can’t be anything less than the Grand Reunion.

A massive overarching plot that brings all those characters together after years drifted apart; big risks and even bigger stakes; and, of course, the franchise’s signature heartbreaks must all happen. The crossover series has to be action-packed and wild, but most importantly, it has to be believable.

Otherwise, it will be seen as fan service instead of a great adventure.
