This Is, By Far, The Most 'Monica' Thing Courteney Cox Has Ever Done
Occasionally, it's hard to tell where an actor ends and their character begins.
Think David Brent in the UK version of The Office ( or indeed anything with Ricky Gervais in really) and you get the picture. There are a lot of crossovers.
Other actors are nothing like the characters they play. Emilia Clarke is constantly laughing and playing about when you see her off-screen. But as Daenerys Targaryen, she was about as serious as it gets – very rarely breaking out into a small smile.
But when Courtney Cox posted a video on Instagram recently, it was the most Monica thing she (or, let's face it anyone) has ever done.
The video was shot on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and shows several pairs of feet walking over Cox's star. One even stops to rub something off the sole of his shoe right over her name.
At the rear of the shot is the door to what appears to be a diner or similar establishment. Just the other side of the door is a pair of legs in denim.
After a few people have walked over the star, we discover that those legs belong to none other than Courtney Cox. And what does she do when she leaves the diner and heads out onto the street?
She gets down on her hands and knees to wipe it clean using detergent and a kitchen roll. She even calls out to people that they could "walk around it". It's so typically Monica that it's hard to believe she's not in character.
But she doesn't stop there. Having wiped clean her own star, she gives the same treatment to those of Laura Dern, Reese Witherspoon and Friends co-star Jennifer Aniston.
The whole thing is played out to the Dolly Parton classic 9 – 5 – and the only thing that could make it more of a Monica moment would be Chandler asking her what the hell she's doing wiping clean stars that were designed to be part of the sidewalk, or Joey dropping part of his sandwich right where she had just cleaned.
Quite why she was waiting in the diner, and whether she always goes around armed with cleaning utensils in case such a situation should arise are matters yet to be revealed. But if she's as much like Monica as this clip would have us believe, Courtney Cox may well make sure she always has some cleaning fluid and a cloth to hand.
