And the “eat the rich” idea is still very much present.

Summary:

  • As Knives Out 3 starring Daniel Craig as Detective Benoit Blanc is far from hitting the cinemas and streaming, there’s a Hulu resembling murder mystery show that may attract Blanc’s fans’ attention.
  • The series plot is set on the board of a sumptuous cruise liner where a locked-room murder mystery obliges two different detectives to team up.
  • The show, just like Knives Out’s second film Glass Onion, brings up some serious social themes, but also gets into even sharper plot twists than Craig’s trilogy.

While Knives Out 3 with Daniel Craig as the most perspicacious detective in the whole world is about to start its production, some other hidden gems on streaming services have been carrying on with Benoit Blanc’s work almost unnoticeably for a while now.

As the final movie of Craig’s character will take quite a lot of time to be released yet, there may be a good chance to discover other Knives Out-ish projects like Hulu’s Death and Other Details.

Set on the board of a luxurious cruise liner, the show pretty much resembles Glass Onion, the Knives Out trilogy’s second film that was released in 2022. The latter’s plot also took place in a sumptuous location like a Greek private island while also, like in Death and Other Details’ case, featuring very diverse and archetypal characters.

One more significant similarity is that both mystery dramas share the same filming style and the same key idea by showing one of the protagonists (or rather antagonists) rolling in a ridiculously pompous bath filled with endless wealth while all this is surrounded by vividly picturesque and exotic nature or sparkling decks of the cruise liner.

Though Death and Other Details’ comes its own way apart from Glass Onion in at least one important thing — it eventually has two detectives on board instead of just one.

It all starts when amateur detective Imogene Scott gets entangled in a locked-room murder mystery and thus becomes a suspect; to prove her innocence, she teams up with this time professional detective Rufus Cotesworth, even though the two can barely stand each other.

On top of that, Cotesworth, compared to Craig’s Benoit Blanc, adapts a different approach for solving the mystery — he prefers to act unbored.

Death and Other Details also takes one more big step that leaves Glass Onion’s moral of the story a little behind — the former gives open criticism for the extreme wealth that’s concentrated in the hands of one person.

In simpler words, those who once enjoyed Glass Onion will definitely be blown away by Death and Other Details that will immerse the viewers even more into its plot’s sharp twists and deep social philosophy.
