The best gift for those waiting for the movie’s sequel to win big at the upcoming Oscars ceremony.

The Oscars race kicked it off last week with the Academy’s announcement of the lucky nominees, and Denis Villeneuve’s epic sci-fi sequel Dune: Part Two is one of the forefronters to compete for the Best Picture award. However, it’s the best time for the movie’s fans to give a rewatch to the film that started it all.

Released back in 2021, Dune: Part One opened a new chapter for the sci-fi genre in the cinema, bringing a modernised version of Frank Herbert’s story to the screens decades after the same was attempted by David Lynch back in 1984.

Though Dune: Part One lacks (just a bit) its successor’s technological scope, it’s still a solid watch and the franchise’s opening gem which soon will arrive on a free streaming platform.

Dune: Part One Will Be Available for Watching on Tubi Since February

Just like Damien Chazelle’s hit musical La La Land, Villeneuve’s sci-fi masterpiece will land on Tubi on February 1, marking yet another big date for the free streaming service that keeps collecting more and more cinematic hits on its platform.

Based on the first part of Frank Herbert’s 1965 novel of the same name, Dune is packed with big Hollywood names and stars Timothée Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, Oscar Isaac, Josh Brolin, Stellan Skarsgård, Dave Bautista, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Zendaya, Jason Momoa, and Javier Bardem.

The plot revolves around Chalamet's noble heir, Paul Atreides, whose family is threatened by the hostile desert planet of Arrakis and must act before the enemy forces expand their influence.

The movie’s release back in 2021 was accompanied by a huge buzz and eventually received praise from both critics and viewers, becoming a box office hit with more than $400 million against the budget of $165 million.

With a solid score of 83% on Rotten Tomatoes, Dune: Part One was one of the forefront contenders at the Oscars ceremony back in 2022, eventually taking home six awards Best Original Score, Best Sound, Best Film Editing, Best Cinematography, Best Production Design, and Best Visual Effects.

The film's sequel, Dune: Part Two is another potential big winner at this year's Oscars, although the second film continues a sad trend for Denis Villeneuve, who didn't receive a Best Director nomination for either film.

Is Dune: Part Two better than Part One?
