Based on the memoirs of two marines, Eugene Sledge and Robert Leckie, the series was produced by Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg.

It's 1945, and though the Allies have won the war Britain is still wobbly and at risk from destabilizing forces. Symonds is a young Englishwoman bored by her desk job when she is approached by a US agent with a new employment offer: he wants her to spy on her own country in an attempt to root out a Soviet spy. Symonds accepts, excited by the chance for adventure but not yet aware of just how much danger she's signed up for.

As the German army advances and men start leaving for the front lines, the women are left holding the fort at home.

When this Franco-Belgian series premiered on Netflix, it was in the streamer's Top 10 in more than 50 countries.

Each episode focuses on one recipient, using interviews, reenactments, and archival footage to tell their stories. Subjects include soldiers from Afghanistan, Korea, WWII, and Vietnam. The pilot episode tells the story of Sylvester Antolak, who fought with Allied forces during the invasion of Italy. Antolak was shot three times and broke his arm, but continued to lead his men forward.

While the critics said 'meh' to this series, regular viewers like it better: the Rotten Tomatoes audience score sits at 88%.

Some of these exploits include parachuting behind enemy lines on D-Day and liberating a concentration camp.

Characters on the show are based on the real-life members of Easy Company, some of whom are interviewed at the beginning of episodes.

Look close and you'll see a lot of now-famous actors in the cast, including Simon Pegg, Andrew Scott, James McAvoy, and Tom Hardy.
