Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery New Image Confirms Theory Going Viral for Months
The franchise’s third instalment might turn out to be even darker than we thought.
2025 will be a year of big returns among Netflix ’s movie franchises and popular shows, but the exciting anticipation of some of them might soon turn into a sombre continuation of the story with a philosophical take.
This is what can potentially happen to the upcoming third movie of A Knives Out franchise which, started as a typical whodunnit, quickly went to more profound themes in the second instalment titled Glass Onion.
Now, when the next movie Wake Up Dead Man is just several months away from landing on Netflix, the streaming has given the first sneak peek into the so far mysterious plot line, and it seems like a popular long-standing theory concerning the movie might now be confirmed.
Wake Up Dead Man’s Plot Details Were Teased Months Ago
The first image from the upcoming movie was released by Netflix just several hours ago and features Daniel Craig ’s detective Benoit Blanc posing alongside Josh O’Connor’s character somewhere in a church.
The place surely didn’t come as a surprise for those who have been following news about the movie’s production process all along. Back in May, Wake Up Dead Man’s writer-director Ryan Johnson gave the first hint at what might potentially happen in the upcoming film.
“We're about to go into production on the 3rd one, and I'm very, very excited to share the title, which gives a little hint of where it's going,” he said on X.
Some fans were quick to catch on the clue, revealing to many others that Wake Up Dead Man is actually a title of the song written by U2 for the band’s 1997 album Pop. The song’s lyrics go on to a desperate prayer for Jesus to come back and save humanity until people don't destroy themselves.
Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery First Look Is Another Major Hint
Considering that there might be in fact a connection between the future film’s plot line and U2’s song, it’s safe to say that Wake Up Dead Man now has all chances to become the entire franchise’s darkest part yet.
With the first image proving Johnson’s words, the movie is likely to deal with more profound and tragic themes of death, religion and the purpose of humanity on Earth.
This becomes even more obvious on a rewatch of Wake Up Dead Man’s first teaser that featured the tolling of a church bell and, on top of that, presented the movie’s title in a Gothic Blackletter typeface, which was a popular font choice for Bibles in the past centuries.
Wake Up Dead Man has no release date yet, but the movie is set to arrive on Netflix sometime this fall.
