Every Has Fallen movie has the same hero, and the TV series built on them leaves him out.

Paris Has Fallen is an eight-episode action thriller that premiered on Canal+ in France in September 2024, then reached Prime Video in the U.K. that November and Hulu in the U.S. on December 6, 2024. Its sequel, Apollo Has Fallen, premiered on Canal+ on September 14, 2026. Howard Overman created and wrote the series. Tewfik Jallab stars as Vincent Taleb, a French protection officer guarding the defense minister, and Ritu Arya plays Zara Taylor, an MI6 agent working in Paris.

What it's based on

Not a book and not a true story. Paris Has Fallen is set in the universe of Gerard Butler's Has Fallen films, in which he plays Secret Service agent Mike Banning:

  • Olympus Has Fallen (2013) — terrorists seize the White House. Antoine Fuqua directed.
  • London Has Fallen (2016) — an attack on world leaders gathered in London. Babak Najafi directed.
  • Angel Has Fallen (2019) — Banning is framed for an attempt on the president's life. Ric Roman Waugh directed.

Together the three made about $523.5 million worldwide on a combined budget of $170 million.

Where Butler's name is

Behind the camera. The series was produced by StudioCanal, Urban Myth Films and Millennium Media, together with G-BASE, the production company Butler runs with Alan Siegel. StudioCanal, Millennium and G-BASE also made the films.

He isn't in the show, and neither is Banning. A crossover with the films had been planned, and the 2023 actors' strike in America killed it.

"Because of the actors strike in America, we weren't able to make that happen," producer Julian Murphy told SBS.

Murphy said the series was built so that viewers who had "never seen the movies" could watch it "as a standalone piece."

What carries over, and what doesn't

The formula is the films': a terrorist attack on a capital, and a bodyguard who ends up the last line of defense. This time the attack is led by Jacob Pearce, a British former captain in the French Foreign Legion, played by Sean Harris, who wants revenge on the French government. Vincent and Zara chase a mole inside the system while the plot spreads from Paris to London.

The tone is different by design. Overman said the guiding rule was that the show "should feel more real than the movies," and that its characters set it apart.

"Introducing those sort of character elements really distinguished the TV show from the movies," Overman told SBS.

The series is also bilingual, in French and English, and Jallab wasn't the first choice for the lead: Mathieu Kassovitz was originally cast as Vincent.

What comes next

Apollo Has Fallen brings back Vincent and Zara for another eight episodes. This time a surveillance operation off the coast of Libya goes wrong, and a villain played by Jacek Koman plans to release a deadly virus across Europe.

Butler's own return is on the film side. He is set to play Banning again, and produce, in Night Has Fallen, with Waugh directing. It doesn't have a release date.
