It's not like every single OG Justified fan was overly fond of City Primeval as a whole, but its finale definitely had a lot of people changing their minds.

Justified: City Primeval has had its ups and downs, and speaking of ups — the final episode of the first season, which ended with a beautiful cliffhanger sprinkled with fan service, was definitely one of its highlights.

Over the course of the first seasons, many OG Justified fans were complaining that the show simply doesn't feel like it even belongs to the same old Justified universe, and just uses the original name to bait fans while bringing nothing to the table. However — spoiler alert — the return of Boyd Crowder pretty much checked all the boxes for fans.

But did City Primeval manage to live up to the standard set by the original books the Justified TV universe is based on? The novels, written by Elmore Leonard, clearly had the bar raised pretty high. However, Justified showrunner Dave Andron believes they managed the mischief.

"It feels like an Elmore Leonard ending. I think people will have a big smile on their faces. You get to go on this journey with Raylan, then you get to have this moment in time with Boyd. It did feel to me that if you were going to go into the world and you don't want to be cheesy about bringing people back, this is how you do it," he told The Hollywood Reporter.

His co-showrunner Michael Dinner added that the return of Boyd Crowder did feel like "the Joker is out there." He noted that the comeback of the iconic antagonist brings back the sense of danger for Raylan and other heroes; moreover, it could also mean a lot for his unfinished story with his ex Ava Crowder.

After all, as Dinner pointed out, "somewhere in California, he has a kid he doesn’t know about."

Although City Primeval was initially presented as a limited series, talks about a sequel are already out there. The show has yet to be officially renewed, but its main star, Timothy Olyphant, has already hinted that he'd "show up" if there was to be a second season.

So far, it seems there's plenty of stuff to expand on the potential season 2 of Justified: City Primeval. All we have to do now is keep an eye out for more updates!
