Who Wore it Better? Wedding Dress Debate Takes Over Bridgerton Fandom

Who Wore it Better? Wedding Dress Debate Takes Over Bridgerton Fandom

All of the families and individuals on Bridgerton have a carefully considered style (think of Lady Featherington's garish new-money looks, Eloise's slightly masculine vests and pinstripes, or Lady Danbury's regal ruffs).

That consideration makes it difficult to compare the outfits of the show's large ensemble of characters.

However, a recent debate has raged over the two wedding dresses we've seen so far – who wore it best, Daphne Bridgerton or Edwina Sharma?

For once the characters are wearing fairly similar looks: both are adorned in Empire-waist gowns with short puffed sleeves, elbow-length gloves, and a veil.

Between Daphne and Edwina's wedding looks, which do you prefer?

Daphne's wedding dress is a stunning white gown designed by first-season costume head Ellen Mirojnick. It features a gently squared-off neckline and a full skirt with a long train.

While Daphne's outfit is beautiful, it's a little simpler than Edwina's dress, reflecting the haste with which she and Simon were forced to marry.

The dress is made of simple fabric with an embroidered overlay, and her gloves are unadorned by beading or detail. However, her gorgeous tiara prevents the look from being too plain.

Edwina's wedding dress was designed by Sophie Canale, who took over the costuming department in season 2. Unlike Daphne, her dress reflects the care and planning that went into "the wedding event of the season".

Although it's as tasteful and beautiful as Daphne's dress, it's also more opulent.

The detailing on the gloves, neckline, and dress fabric is more extravagant than Daphne's, and while her tiara is smaller and more discrete she's more than made up for it in the necklace department, rocking a gorgeous diamond choker.

Both wedding dresses are show-stoppers that capture the essence of the characters: Daphne's dress is as sweet and elegant as she is, while Edwina's gown displays her character's sophisticated – but slightly over-indulged – nature.

Both dresses are stunning examples of the costume design that has made Bridgerton such a visually impressive show.

Ultimately, the decision of which dress was better is a matter of personal preference – both actresses look gorgeous.

At the end of the day, Daphne's dress reflects her graceful and innocent personality, while Edwina's regal ensemble is less about her true self than the model of perfection that everyone else wants her to be.

Because of that, we have to crown Daphne the winner here. Hopefully Edwina will find someone next season who sees her for who she truly is, and she'll have another opportunity to be a Bridgerton bride.
