Will Clueless Sequel Series Be Bad? Fans Think So

Clueless is getting its sequel with Alicia Silverstone as Cher Horowitz. Though fans don't think it will be any good — here’s why.
Back in 1995, Clueless took the world by storm. It was a commercial success at its finest, grossing $56.7 million worldwide with a $12 million budget. But beyond just the money, Clueless has become a well-deserved cult classic.
And that's both a blessing and a curse because Hollywood is known for slaughtering already great material. This time, Clueless is getting a sequel, with Alicia Silverstone returning as her iconic Cher Horowitz, according to Deadline.
What Do Fans Think About This New Clueless Sequel Series?
The show is still in the development stage so we don't know anything specific yet, but fans are already worried sick. And that's only natural, because (at least for now) it feels like an obvious cash grab that plays on our '90s nostalgia.
“The cycle of forced nostalgia mining on beloved properties, while the broader world order crumbles, is definitely a dystopian feeling to live with,” one fan, LongConFebrero on Reddit noted.
“I have begun to see that truly most media now is just rehashes of old series or movies. They legit cannot create a new thing to save their lives,” Redditor HouseJumpy9941 said.
“This will flop… can we leave the past alone, I love clueless, the only movie I knew a group of guys could watch that was considered a girls movie, growing up. Stop f– with the past. The first clueless show was a flop,” Redditor DjMD1017 wrote.
A History of Clueless After 1995: The Good, The Bad, and The Whatever
This isn't the first time someone's tried to reimagine Clueless. Back in 1996, Rachel Blanchard stepped into Cher's shoes for a TV series that wasn't that good. While it tried to capture the magic of the movie, it just couldn't compare.
Clueless even has its own musical, which premiered off-Broadway in 2018 with Dove Cameron as Cher. The musical received mixed reviews. While it was praised for its respect for the original and its tone, it was also criticized for its lack of a story.
Then in 2022, they wanted to make a show based on the 1996 series, but abandoned the idea.
Where to Watch Clueless?
Before we get any more details on this sequel, we all need to go back to our roots. Clueless is available on Microsoft Store, Amazon Video, Apple TV and Fandango at Home.
