Kevin Costner’s scandalous exit from Yellowstone was one of the biggest mishaps in the TV show industry in the past year or so. It rerouted the series’ entire future due to Costner’s playing the lead part in Yellowstone and even made creator Taylor Sheridan shorten the show from seven initially planned seasons to just five (though admittedly, the plot itself didn’t change that much, or so they say).

After all that trouble, Kevin Costner just said the funniest thing ever.

Costner Wants Back on Yellowstone

So much drama later, it would have been really bizarre for Kevin Costner to suddenly plead the fifth and say that he wants to reprise his role in Yellowstone, after all, right? And yet, that’s exactly what happened: in his recent interview with ET, the former John Dutton star claimed he’d love to come back to Sheridan’s iconic TV show.

“[I don’t know] how it works out — I hope it does — but they've got a lot of different shows going on. Maybe it will. Maybe this will circle back to me. If it does and I feel really comfortable with [it], I'd love to do it. <...> I've kind of had my own fantasy how it might be, but that's Taylor's thing,” Costner shared.

Hindsight premonition is really strong with this statement, don’t you feel it? Costner’s hope and desire to play John Dutton would have worked way better a year ago.

Costner’s Yellowstone Return Is Unlikely

Despite the former lead star’s words, it’s highly unlikely that Taylor Sheridan would meet him in the middle. Kevin Costner’s exit put the creator and his show in a tough spot and cost him a lot of money, time, and effort to fix. Now, with a new vision and plan for Yellowstone, Sheridan doesn’t even need John Dutton… This one, at least.

There will be a younger version of John Dutton in the finale which is definitely one of Taylor Sheridan’s ideas of bypassing the lead star’s exit. Seeing how Sheridan doesn’t take no as an answer, we’re certain about one thing: since the Yellowstone creator has already made up his mind, he will not accept Costner’s peace deal.
