Don't miss your chance to dive into life in 1900s Montana.
This one is for the fans of sweeping epics and western dramas. Even if you think you have seen them all, you may have skipped this one. Unintentionally, of course. So trust me when I say that Legends of the Fall is a must-see. And if you have a Netflix subscription, you only have until March 1 to check it out.
Legends of the Fall is a 1994 movie directed by Edward Zwick. Set in the early 20th century, during the time of World War I, the movie explores the tumultuous life of Tristan Ludlow, played by Brad Pitt, and his complex relationships with his brothers, family, and… the one woman they all love.
What Is Legends of the Fall About?
At the center of the story is the Ludlow family, who live in the rugged Montana wilderness. Their story is told in different time slots, chronicling the lives of Tristan and his brothers Alfred and Samuel, as they are shaped by war, love, betrayal, and tragedy.
When they all fall in love with the same woman named Susannah, played by Julia Ormond, the bond between three brothers is tested. The complex dilemmas they have to go through makes you wish you are never put in positions like that.
Why Do Fans Love Legends of the Fall?
The amazing thing about the movie is that despite the fact that almost all the characters’ morals are in the grey area, it’s impossible to stop rooting for them all. For example, Tristan is frankly a terrible person, but he is so magnetic that it’s just irresistible.
And what about Ormand's character? She is considered terrible, but she sells her performance so well that you don't see it this way. You can really empathize with the character and find her actions understandable.
“I don't think another movie has put me so completely into a time period the way this film did. It really does a good job of making you lose yourself in the early 20th century. You can almost smell the Montana mountains and taste the moonshine. The performances were absolutely stellar. You can feel and empathize with each character,” Redditor Working_Class_Pride said.
The movie is available to stream on Netflix until March 1.
