3 Body Problem Star Was Also an Iconic Rodriguez-verse Character
From Dusk till Dawn: The Series, the horror series that comes as a part of the franchise based on the comic of the same name, became González’s first English-language project — here she portrays Santánico Pandemonium, originally played by another Mexican actress, Salma Hayek.
Though having to bring to the screen the character that already exists in different interpretations, González yet makes Santánico completely different by a fascinating, simultaneously dramatical and fierce performance.
The main storyline follows luckless Gecko brothers who are chased by the FBI and Texas Ranger Freddie Gonzalez after having robbed a bank and killed several people there. When Gonzalez finally pursues the brothers, he, alongside the FBI as well, finds himself trapped in a desert bar that is secretly run by supernatural creatures.
It is there where they also meet Eiza González’s character whose real name is Kisa and who is desperate to get her freedom back after being turned into a vampire and tortured for centuries.
The series highlights the character’s main goal — survival and escape without having to have her hands covered in someone’s blood. Behind her tough appearance Kisa is vulnerable, sincere and compassionate — the features that are also hidden in her name that means sunlight.
And even though From Dusk till Dawn: The Series has initially been striving to reinvent Santánico Pandemonium’s image, it’s mainly Eiza González who managed to embody all the seemingly contradictory features to demonstrate her character’s personal tragedy.
