5 Brilliant Netflix Original Movies You May Have Overlooked All This Time

Netflix isn’t really a guarantee of quality, though these movies released by the streamer received universal acclaim, so it’s high time you check them out.
Quite frequently, the audiences are divided when it comes to evaluating Netflix ’s own content; for many, the streamer’s projects are more about a social message rather than good storylines and the intention to follow what the viewers really want.
This, however, doesn’t concern every single movie produced by Netflix, and there are some truly marvelous flicks you can find in the streamer’s vast collection.
Unlike Netflix’s recent original movie The Electric State that didn’t do well with critics, these films might become your life saver when it comes to looking for some good story on the platform.
The Beautiful Game
When it comes to professional sports, you might be surprised to find out that this is the place where the most emotional stories are created, and The Beautiful Game does confirm so.
The movie stars Bill Nighy as Mal, a manager of England’s homeless football team that gets an opportunity to compete for the big prize of the Homeless World Cup; the chances for the eventual win get bigger when talented striker Vinny comes on board, though he will jeopardise the whole team’s future if he isn’t able to reconcile with his past before the competition.
The Beautiful Game received warm welcome from both critics and viewers, currently holding scores of 88% and 66% respectively on Rotten Tomatoes.
His Three Daughters
One of the highest-rated movies Netflix ever released, His Three Daughters would’ve been a good frontrunner during this year’s awards season, though it was ultimately snubbed for no reason.
Starring Carrie Coon, Natasha Lyonne and Elizabeth Olsen, the movie centres on three estranged sisters brought together by their father’s rapid health decline; their old resentments towards each other quickly resurface, making it even harder for the sisters to cope with their eventual loss.
His Three Daughters currently has a critical score of 98% on Rotten Tomatoes.
Joy
Based on the real events, Joy stars Bill Nighy, Thomasin McKenzie and James Norton as a trio of scientists whose perseverance and years of collaborative work eventually resulted in a breakthrough event, marking the birth of the world’s first in vitro fertilisation baby Louise Brown in 1978.
The movie follows its characters through all the hardships and odds that would probably make others give up on their idea; these three, however, proved themselves to be unstoppable and let one of humanity's biggest dreams come true.
Joy was a big hit among both critics and viewers and still holds impressive scores of 91% and 90% on Rotten Tomatoes.
The Piano Lesson
Released on Netflix last November, the movie had all the reasons to become a big hit, though it eventually didn’t receive as much attention as it was supposed to.
Starring John David Washington and Samuel L. Jackson, The Piano Lesson is based on August Wilson’s Pulitzer-Prize-winning play and follows the Charles family, centring on Washington’s Boy Willie who lets the rest of the family know about his intention to sell the piano he inherited from his father. This results in a dispute which uncovers the Charles’ troubled past and dark secrets.
The Piano Lesson has 88% and 66% of positive reviews from critics and audiences respectively on Rotten Tomatoes.
Delicious
Released just around 10 days ago after the premiere at the Berlin International Film Festival, the movie might have not found its audience yet, though its premise sounds compelling enough for Netflix’s viewers to eventually push it all the way to the streamer’s top charts.
Delicious follows a German family whose idyllic vacation in the French countryside takes an unexpected turn when they hit a young woman and take her home with them. It's later revealed all the family members’ intentions are much more complicated than just redressing a wrong.
