The Addams Family-inspired show has been a captivating thing to watch ever since its season 1, but not everything in Wednesday actually looked coherent.

Netflix’s Wednesday is about to reveal so much more about the second season’s mysteries in the second part coming on September 3, though some of the show’s fans aren’t so sure this would make sense after all.

Released back in 2022, Wednesday’s season 1 built a narrative compelling enough to deserve a logical outcome — instead, some plot twists confused the series’ audiences even more.

While we still don’t know what to expect from the sophomore seasons finale, what we do know is that the first instalment’s script was missing something in parts, which is what the second season now has to fix.

Joseph Crackstone Comes Back Only to Be Immediately Killed Off

In the first season’s finale, Wednesday goes through a rough patch as she’s seriously injured by Ms. Thornhill (now revealed as Laurel Gates) and has to stop her from destroying Nevermore Academy alongside all of its students.

The whole thing about Christina Ricci’s character getting into Nevermore was to revive her ancestor Joseph Crackstone, a pilgrim from the 1600s who despised outcasts.

In the end, Crackstone becomes the biggest threat that Nevermore has ever faced, though he’s seen on the screen for, well, 15 minutes tops. As a result, the “final boss” plot twist felt rushed and undeveloped, with Wednesday getting rid of Crackstone way too easily.

Morticia and Gomez Addams’ Murder Scandal Has No Impact on the Plot

Sometime in between all the mess that happened in Nevermore in the first season’s finale, it’s also revealed that both Morticia and Gomez were involved in the murder of Garrett Gates, a Nevermore student who was forced by his parents to kill as many outcasts as possible.

The story then is dramatised even more when Morticia admits to having stabbed Garrett with a sword, but in the end he accidentally kills himself with a poison.

Even though this connects to Laurel Gates’ desire to continue her family’s mission and kill the outcasts off, her revelation about being Joseph Crackstone’s relative was kinda enough.

We Still Don’t Know How the Hydes Transform

When Wednesday starts diving deeper into the common knowledge about the Hydes, she figures out that, while looking like a normal person for most of the time, these outcasts turn into a hideous monster once they’re triggered by a traumatic event or summoned by a master who controls them.

The show’s first season doesn’t explain which event triggered Tyler before each of his transformations or why Laurel Gates chose this exact moment to trigger him.

More than that, in the season’s finale Tyler appears to have some control over his supernatural self, though it usually takes forever for the Hydes to gain self-control.

Wednesday’s Psychic Visions Are Suspiciously Convenient

In the second season, Wednesday is yet to find a way to retrieve her supernatural ability, but this might be because she pushed it to the limits in the first instalment.

There, Wednesday’s psychic visions give her the exact information that she needs, not just a hint or a small detail that would entail her eventual big discovery.

However, those visions don’t work just one way, since sometimes they can literally mean nothing and only serve as a distraction. Hopefully, the second season’s part 2 will explain how it actually works.

Laurel Gates Comes Back From the Dead Way Too Easily

Initially introduced as Marilyn Thornhill, Laurel Gates covers her real identity by working as Wednesday and Enid’s lovely dorm mom and botanical sciences teacher at Nevermore.

However, it seems pretty weird that, with that infamous story about her family’s wish to exterminate all the outcasts, no one recognized Laurel and questioned her sudden appearance in the town.

Apart from that, Laurel’s mission to resurrect Crackstone required her to be extremely cautious while controlling Tyler and collecting all the body parts needed for the procedure, so the whole plan looks barely plausible with so many eyes being around.

Tyler’s Hyde Plot Twist Feels Forced

A timid and sweet barista that starts up a romance with Wednesday, Tyler goes completely insane in the first season’s finale, which seems rushed and jarring considering that there was no character building for such a development.

Apart from a couple of weird moments, Tyler appeared to be completely fine and would conveniently transform back to human when Wednesday would find him after the monster’s attack.

However, what raged the show’s fans the most is that the romance between Tyler and Wednesday was meant to end up being a betrayal since the very beginning, so many felt like the latter just wasted her time.
