The twist may disappoint you in case you're from the United States.

When you walk out of the theatre after a good movie, you may find yourself craving a rewatch — however, the only option is going to the cinema for one more time, and then, as soon as the movie leaves the big screens, it's a long wait until a digital release.

Well, the biggest disaster slash action slash sci-fi movie of the year 2023 is walking the same path. Good news: Godzilla Minus One has finally gotten its first streaming release date! Bad news (for some): it is exclusively for Japan as of now.

Yes, the 2023 Godzilla installment was a big deal worldwide, but in Japan, people went truly crazy. The Minus One movie grossed $115 million in global box office and became the fifth-highest-grossing Japanese film of 2023.

Now, it heads straight to Prime Video, and will be available for streaming on the platform starting May 3. However, this is only for Japan; others will have to wait a little more.

How to Watch Godzilla Minus One?

Currently, Godzilla Minus One doesn't have a streaming release date in the United States. You can, however, use VPN to change your country on Prime Video.

When Will Godzilla Minus One Be Available in the US?

For Shin Godzilla, it took 132 days to finally become available in the United States, and it may be the same for the new installment. According to The Direct, a similar pattern could mean that the digital release may happen in early September 2024.

For fans, the absence of Godzilla Minus One on streaming is eyebrow-raising at best: after all, the movie won the 2024 Academy Award for Best Visual Effects, and yet is wasn't available during the voting period AND after it finished!

"I have a deep desire to watch this film after hearing the reviews but had no way to go see it. I know it will eventually come out and I will get to see it but I can't believe a movie that got nominated and WON an Oscar has no widespread way for people to enjoy it. I'm wondering how the academy even viewed it since most often those get leaked out somewhere," Redditor djfried said.

All we can do is keep an eye out for more updates on when exactly Godzilla Minus One hits streaming somewhere outside of Japan!
