David Fincher’s Tarantino Sequel Receives a Confusing Update

The future movie’s status is questionable after reports about Quentin Tarantino not being attached to his original film’s alleged sequel.
While Quentin Tarantino is reportedly getting things prepared for filming his next mysterious movie sometime next year, David Fincher might be on his way to make the former’s dream from not so long ago come true.
Roughly a year ago, Tarantino’s tenth and presumably final film titled The Movie Critic was cancelled after the director had reportedly changed his mind about the main idea. The movie, however, was rumoured to become some sort of a sequel to Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood with Brad Pitt’s character as the lead this time.
The recent news about David Fincher’s plans to film a sequel to Tarantino’s 2019 drama caused a divisive reaction among the latter’s fans, but the newest update suggests they might have no reason to worry after all.
David Fincher’s Next Movie Might Not Be Once Upon a Time in Hollywood’s Sequel At All
Considering that Quentin Tarantino has nothing to do with the future movie whatsoever, many think Fincher’s film might become just some sort of a follow-up inspired by the original movie, but not connected that much to it.
The idea was shared by The Big Picture podcast’s hosts Sean Fennessey and Amanda Dobbins who, apparently, learned more about Fincher’s alleged sequel at recent CinemaCon.
“It definitely seems like this movie is happening.... Here's what I can say. This probably should not be thought of as a sequel. This should be thought of more of a follow-up that's connected to but not the same as”, Fennessey revealed.
He also added that the movie was confirmed to have its events unfolding in 1977, “which is roughly eight years after Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, so a different time in Cliff's life”.
David Fincher’s Sequel Shouldn’t Be Regarded as a Sequel Anyway
Despite planning to pick Tarantino’s story up sometime after the events of the original film, Fincher’s next project is unlikely to share Once Upon a Time in Hollywood’s atmosphere just because it will lack Tarantino’s unique directorial vision.
Centring on Brad Pitt’s Cliff Booth, the future movie might also bring along a completely different set of characters, let alone featuring new events that will now be directly linked to Cliff’s life.
However, it’s fair to say fans would still be dying to know how things turned out for Cliff after his gruesome encounter with Charles Manson’s band in the house of Leonardo DiCaprio ’s Rick Dalton.
The story definitely deserves a continuation, though David Fincher’s personal directorial style will eventually make it his own anyway.
