Fans Are Divided Over Severance Season 3 Possible Plot Twist

The show’s audiences can’t decide whether it’s a happy or a very sad ending that awaits us when Severance is over.
Apple TV+ ’s biggest hit to-date, Severance won’t be back on track for at least a couple of upcoming years, but the show’s fans have already come up with several plot twists to theorise about.
With the second season’s final episode airing last Friday, the series was officially renewed for another instalment, though it’s not yet clear whether the upcoming third season will become Severance’s last one.
However, there’s some certainty in the air about the future installment being a clear indication of what’s in store for the show’s definite ending, and fans have polar visions for Severance’s finale.
Severance Fans Offer Very Different Predictions for the Show’s Ending
While the series has yet to run for at least one season or even more, which is likely considering its status of the most watched show in Apple TV+’s history, fans are so desperate to see what’s in the end for Severance they have already given out their own ideas.
One of those, suggested by Redditor Additional_Fig_1032, offers a more positive perspective, stating that the finale would be just way too disheartening if it proved Lumon Industries’ innies would keep working there forever or one part of each worker’s consciousness would be dominated by the other.
“This led me to the conclusion that the only way Severance can end is with the consciousness of the innie and the outie joining into one”, the user concluded.
In the meantime, another theory gives a polar vision of how things might turn out in the end, suggesting that Adam Scott’s Mark will have to kill one of his consciousnesses out of desperation, not able to restrain his feelings as an outie while living a completely different life as an innie.
“Mark tried to run from this by severing himself, such that his innie will know neither grief nor love, while his outie fails to move past grief. I think, cruelly, he might have an impossible choice at the end of either living a life remembering both the grief and love for Gemma or neither”, Redditor sweet_n_sour_curry explained.
Severance Season 3 Will Arrive Sooner Than You Expect, Ben Stiller Promises
On the heels of the official announcement about Severance’s season 3 being in the works, fans can now be reassured that the next instalment (probably) won’t take that much time to arrive after all.
Talking about the series’ future on the Kelce brothers’ New Heights podcast, Severance’s producer and director Ben Stiller revealed the second season had gone through some major hardships that had ultimately delayed its release.
“There was a writer and actor strike, and it took us a little bit to kind of regroup after that. I think we shot for 186 days on Season 2. There's a lot of shooting and editing, and editing takes a while, but thank goodness that the audience was there when we came back on. It almost built the suspense up even more”, Stiller said.
He also added that making a new season for three years isn’t in the production team’s plan and that “hopefully we'll be announcing what the plan is very soon”.
