Fans Mock ‘The Odyssey’ Ticket Buyers as Nolan’s Epic Sells Out a Year Early

Christopher Nolan’s epic drama isn’t being released until July next year, but the madness is starting right now. Here’s what fans are saying about The Odyssey’s insane presale campaign.
It’s fair to say Christopher Nolan has secured himself a brand name since literally every movie is doomed to be a major hit; however, things with the director’s The Odyssey might have gone way too far.
Starring Matt Damon, Anne Hathaway and Tom Holland as leads, the movie is still in the production and will reportedly be filming for at least several weeks more, with the release currently slated for July 17, 2026.
The Odyssey was announced in December last year, quickly making both execs and Nolan’s fans hype up the future film’s potential masterpiece status.
Things got way more serious and complicated when, despite not being completely filmed yet, The Odyssey had its first screenings sold out in minutes — and now many are wondering whether this was worth the shot.
‘The Odyssey’ First Shows Are Already Sold Out in American Theatres
To some it might seem like a fever dream, but the movie has in fact made its first money just hours ago, all the while still being in active production.
The tickets, distributed by the US’ biggest cinema chains like Harkins and Cinemark, went on sale this morning, with nothing left just moments afterwards.
On top of that, resellers went into the game as well, currently trying to give some of Nolan’s luckless fans an opportunity to be in the first row for The Odyssey for a whopping amount of $250.
As many outlets noted, there weren’t such outrageous precedents except for, well, Nolan’s The Dark Knight — back in 2012 the tickets for the movie’s first screenings went on sale six months before the theatrical premiere, so The Odyssey does come out as a definite winner here.
Fans Joke About Possible Change of Plans for ‘The Odyssey’ Ticket Holders
Whatever reason Warner Bros. execs had for giving out tickets for a yet unfinished movie, it does feel insane to get a pass to see a film a year in advance, even though it has become a normal practice for concert tickets.
“I just don’t think it’s a good idea to treat movies like concerts. If this becomes a regular thing, people are going to buy and flip tickets like crazy. The movies should be for everyone, not freaks and opportunists”, user @PoorOldRoloTony addressed the issue on X.
Even though many still bought into the whole thing, causing a chaos for theatres’ websites, others took the issue more reasonably, stating that there’s no way to know whether you will be able to go and see that movie while planning it so much ahead.
“Imagine reserving a seat for a movie that doesn't come out for a year and something comes up 11 months from now and you have to cancel”, Redditor murakaz commented in a thread.

“Needing to book early seats for a f—king movie further in advance than booking a flight to Europe is just stupid”, UnknownFiddler agreed.
“Imagine reserving it and then dying”, Vegetable-Ad-7805 suggested jokingly.
When Will ‘The Odyssey’ Be Released?
The movie is currently scheduled for a release worldwide on July 17, 2026.
