Here’s a Perfect British Crime Drama Starring David Tennant With 92% RT Score
Nobody owns a role quite like him, right?
Let's get one thing straight: crime dramas are the best. I can't find any other genre in the television industry that keeps you invested in every story that's told like a good old fashioned crime drama. The only thing better than that is a British one, with that special humor and attitude from all the characters portrayed by beloved actors.
One of my recent discoveries in this genre is a show called Broadchurch. Yes, I know it's been 12 years since season 1 of the show arrived, but I guess I've been too busy to find it in time. Broadchurch is a series created by Chris Chibnall, and the main characters in it are played by Olivia Colman and the one and only David Tennant.
You probably already love him for Doctor Who or Good Omens, or maybe you even gave that new drama called Rivals a shot. So you know the man is brilliant in any role. In Broadchurch, he plays Detective Inspector Alec Hardy who, along with his colleague Detective Sgt. Ellie Miller (played by Colman), tries to unravel the mystery behind the death of an 11-year-old boy Danny.
What Is Broadchurch About & Is It Worth Watching?
The series begins when the boy's body is found on the beach in a small town. It becomes clear that he was murdered, and the idyllic lives of the people in this town are turned upside down. The media attention is crazy, and that's just one thing that drives the people of Dorset apart.
During season 1, the two detectives manage to find the killer and bring him to justice. But that's definitely not the end of the story, because later in season 2 we learn that the small town has a lot more secrets than it seemed at first. And season 3 begins with another heartbreaking story for Hardy to investigate.
The show ended in 2017 after three seasons, but fans are still under its spell. The show has a 92% critics score and 91% from viewers on Rotten Tomatoes score — so the numbers once again prove it was perfect.
“Frankly, wow. The show was unpretentious, gripping, and strangely enough, simple. There was no flash or attempt to portray this show as anything but a very emotional crime drama and it just clicked for me. Never at any point of the season was I poking holes in the plot or having my belief in the drama shattered by overly fictitious elements,” Redditor HerrSprink said.
The show is now available to stream on Peacock.
