House of the Dragon Season 3 Will Change Everything for Aegon Targaryen: “Very Satisfying and Unpredictable”

House of the Dragon’s next season will likely witness Aegon’s worst nightmare becoming true, but Tom Glynn-Carney suggests fans won’t mind it at all — here’s what the actor said about the matter.
It’s quite possible that House of the Dragon’s upcoming third season will be the last time we’ll see quite many characters on the show, but in some cases that’s not a bad thing at all.
The series is about to unfold the imminent and long-teased war between the Targaryens, witnessing some of the most important battles that will define the ruler and the owner of the Iron Throne.
House of the Dragon’s season 3 will also determine the fate of Tom Glynn-Carney’s Aegon Targaryen, and the actor himself thinks his character’s final outcome will be both shocking and crowd-pleasing.
Tom Glynn-Carney Teases “Unpredictable” and “Satisfying” Aegon Arc in House of the Dragon Season 3
The most outrageous villains in Game of Thrones’ universe do not always become victims of their own ambitions, but Glynn-Carney has recently hinted at Aegon having to deal with some major realisation of his wrongness in the upcoming third season.
“He might’ve looked strong with a crown on his head, but I think he’s always been fragile. That explains his volatility, defensiveness and how quickly he is to attack. It’s all self-preservation and it comes from insecurity. The acknowledgement of his own downfall. There are some physical changes Aegon went through from the burns and the accident. That only brought forward the weaknesses he already has. It’s now a case of finding how to use those to his advantage. He needs to pave another path for himself to find strength and glory”, the actor revealed in an interview with Awards Radar recently.
Additionally, he also suggested that fans would be pleased with the way the show handled Aegon’s story.
“This whole character arc we’re working on at the moment is very satisfying and unpredictable. It’s tricky and very intricate. It’s hard to put it into words”, Glynn-Carney added.
What Happens to Aegon in “Fire & Blood”? (Spoiler Alert!)
In George Martin’s prequel book, Aegon’s fate is defined by the Battle of the Rook’s Rest which leaves him critically injured with severe burns, broken hips and ribs.
Eventually, Aegon is confined to bed for the rest of his life, though continues to serve as Westeros’ King, passing on some of his duties to his brother Aemond.
Some years later, Aegon dies after being poisoned by one of his closest allies after he refuses to abdicate in favor of his nephew Aegon III.
It’s never revealed who exactly killed Aegon, but one of the possible versions suggests Lord Larys Strong could be involved, as he was visibly worried that Aegon remaining on the Iron Throne would eventually lead to another bloody war.
When Will ‘House of the Dragon’ Season 3 Be Released?
