Looking for good Hulu originals? Here they are.

Fictional crime stories can be absolutely impeccable sometimes, but when you watch something you know is based on a real-life event, it hits differently. This, we're sure, will be exactly the case with Hulu 's newest pulse-pounding addition.

Released on April 17, the platform's fresh original crime drama Under the Bridge is based not just on a true story, but rather on an actual national tragedy of Canada. The miniseries consisting of 8 episodes that are scheduled for weekly release tells the story of the murder of Reena Virk — a 14-year-old Canadian killed by a group of teenagers after suffering from bullying.

What Happened to Reena Virk?

What started off as a party with peers near the Craigflower Bridge quickly escalated into a pure torment. Virk was being kicked, punched, and someone even stubbed out a cigarette on her forehead.

Some girl told the others to stop and Virk even tried to walk away, but several teens followed her to another side of the bridge and continued beating her. Eventually, they left her unconscious body in the water only for the police to find her dead near the Vancouver Island later.

Under the Bridge Is Also Based on a True Crime Book

Initially, the horrifying story was turned into a book Under the Bridge: The True Story of the Murder of Reena Virk by Rebecca Godfrey. Then, Quinn Shephard adapted it for Hulu.

"As someone who grew up in BC during the time of this murder and has read the book this show is based on, I really hope they do the victim and Virk family justice," Redditor cainer18 said.

There was an attempt to adapt the nightmarish story of Virk's murder by Reese Witherspoon, who reportedly had acquired film rights for the book to adapt it into a movie with her production company in 2007. However, the project got stalled in development and never saw the light of day.

Under the Bridge Schedule: When Do New Episodes Release?

Hulu's Under the Bridge already has 83% on Rotten Tomatoes from critics, so it seems that Shephard's adaptation has managed to do justice to the blood-chilling tragedy. Two episodes are already available on Hulu, with the remaining six to premiere weekly on Wednesdays.

The finale will air on May 29.
