After The Crown, it’s hard to tell.

Summary:

  • Bridgerton is a period television romance drama produced by Netflix and Shondaland.
  • The show is known for its modernized portrayal of the Regency era, as well as its long gaps between season releases.
  • Newly announced release dates for season 3 suggest a two-part premiere, which has received very mixed reactions from fans.

Dearest readers, have you recovered from the shock yet? It's clear that the Bridgerton season 3 announcement didn't go as planned, as the dates were leaked by the social media team behind the show's official X (formerly known as Twitter) account the day before the actual announcement.

While the majority of fans were hoping to see new promo posters, screencaps, or even teaser trailers for the season, they were met with an announcement video consisting of nothing but footage from the previous season. As underwhelming as that is, that wasn't even the worst part of the announcement.

The worst part, of course, was the news that Bridgerton now joins the extensive list of TV shows that Netflix will be releasing in two parts, despite the small number of episodes. From The Witcher to Stranger Things, from The Crown to Ozark, this practice haunts fans desperate for content and makes them wait even longer.

Why Is Bridgerton S3 Split In Two Parts?

Needless to say, the first reaction of the fans was very bitter. Not only will they have to wait until the late spring of 2024 to see their favorites again, but they will also have to wait another month for the second part.

“Two years between seasons is too long, especially when it seems like a deliberate choice by production, splitting the season into parts seems like a money grab from Netflix, and that promo was just lackluster and insulting,” Redditor Cat_Biscuit stated.

The majority of complaints seem to come from the standpoint of the extra wait between seasons. Some viewers feel that Netflix should have just gone back to weekly releases if they wanted subscribers to stick around. 8 episodes of Bridgerton would still cover the two months of May and June.

Those with a more positive outlook, however, tend to think about the advantages of having two parts to the season. Not only does the new date seem fitting for Colin and Penelope, who will be in the spotlight this year as their turn was first announced on May 16, 2022, but two parts will likely mean twice as much promotion.

From sneak peeks, interviews, and teasers to offline premiere events, fans are ready to get all the details. If you can't wait to learn more about Bridgerton season 3, stay tuned for more news and exciting updates. In the meantime, seasons 1 and 2 are available to binge-watch on Netflix.
