Isabela Merced Isn’t Ready for The Last of Us Season 3 Twist: ‘Going to Be Hard’

The Last of Us Season 3 will have a storyline that Isabela Merced is nervous about. We take a look at how the HBO series might go in a completely different direction than the game.
The Last of Us Season 2 introduced us to some of the most important characters gamers have known and loved for years. Among these new additions is Dina, portrayed by the talented Isabela Merced.
Dina comes into the story as Ellie's best friend and eventually as something more. Now that Season 3 is officially greenlit, Merced is already thinking about the challenging road ahead for her character.
Isabela Merced Talks About the Last of Us Season 3
When asked about the future tensions between Dina and Ellie in a recent interview with Variety, Merced revealed her personal struggle with what's to come.
Not to spoil too much, but in the games, Dina and Ellie argue about Ellie being overly vindictive. At one point, Dina even says that Abby is not as important as their family. But Ellie, being Ellie, goes on her quest for revenge.
“It’s going to be weird acting like I don’t like Bella. It’s going to be hard, because I have such a sweet spot for them now. But I don’t know. I’ve tried to ask Craig, but I don’t think he even really knows yet fully how things are going to be,” the actress said.
But there's an obvious way out. Changes that the show made to Dina and Ellie’s relationship can actually help Season 3 to handle the situation Merced is afraid of. But the question is: will it satisfy the fandom?
The Last of Us Controversial Changes May Be the Solution, Merced Thinks
Merced hints that the show can take a different approach, saying:
“But I have my own input that I’ve already texted him [Craig] about with suggestions as to how everyone reacts to the ending of Season 2, and how I think Dina — now that she’s changed so much from the game — how she would react to the events that occur. And I’m so excited to talk about Episode 7, because that to me is a huge shift for their relationship, and what happens when the truth is revealed.”
The show has been under fire for its changes. Fans are especially concerned with Ellie's reaction to Dina's pregnancy. Merced's words really do feel like another confirmation that the series is heading into a different direction.
