Jeffrey Wright’s Roles in The Last of Us and The Hunger Games, Explained

The Last of Us’ TV adaptation has just seen Wright’s debut as Isaac Dixon, but you might also remember the actor from another dystopian story The Hunger Games and, well, The Last of Us’ video game itself. Here’s everything about the roles Jeffrey Wright had in the franchises.
Jeffrey Wright has just made a huge comeback in The Last of Us’ season 2 episode 4, introducing his ruthless WLF leader Isaac Dixon whose paths are about to cross with Abby’s.
The character is yet to play a crucial role in the ongoing fight between the WLF and the Seraphites, as well as in Abby’s own journey as she seeks ways to kill Ellie before the latter actually kills her.
Still, even with Isaac keeping most of the action for the future episodes, Jeffrey Wright’s appearance might have served as a great reminder of his role in The Hunger Games – another post-apocalyptic franchise where the actor holds just as minor, but still a pretty important role.
Who Is Jeffrey Wright’s Isaac Dixon in The Last of Us?
For fans of the original video game, it’s not the first time they see the actor in the dystopian backgrounds demolished by the virus outbreak: before portraying Isaac in the HBO series, Wright actually played the same character in the game as well.
The actor’s Isaac Dixon appears to be a tough man who sought nothing but revenge against FEDRA ever since the agency installed absolute control over Isaac’s city Seattle and its surviving citizens.
First starting as a FEDRA sergeant, Isaac carries out some sort of coup, killing his fellow soldiers and forming his own radical group called the Washington Liberation Front, also nicknamed Wolves.
Isaac’s encounter with Abby several years after she kills Joel secures her membership in the WLF and a trust relationship with Isaac himself.
However, they eventually go separate ways, with Abby fleeing the WLF and Isaac’s army having to retreat in its fight with the Seraphites.
Jeffrey Wright Was Also a Genius District 3 Tribute in The Hunger Games
Years before landing a role in The Last of Us, the actor portrayed Beetee Latier in Hunger Games: Catching Fire, coming as the 34th Hunger Games victor reaped to participate in the third Quarter Quell alongside Katniss and Peeta.
A tribute from District 3, Beetee wasn’t quite sophisticated when it came to fighting skills, but he proved himself with all the knowledge about electronics and technology, eventually crafting a device that killed the remaining six tributes.
Beetee also makes an unexpected comeback in The Hunger Games’ prequel novel Sunrise on the Reaping for a disheartening reason, though it’s not yet clear whether Wright will reprise his role in the upcoming movie adaptation.
