Who is Kat in MobLand? Janet McTeer's power broker whose single phone call halts a cartel execution
MobLand spent seven episodes convincing me the Harrigans were the apex predators of London — Pierce Brosnan glowering, Helen Mirren scheming, Tom Hardy's Harry Da Souza fixing everything short of the weather. Then episode 7, "The Crossroads," happened, and the show casually revealed that all of these terrifying people are, on the global org chart, middle management.

Jessica Chastain joins Netflix's Yale fertility series — the case where three quarters of the painkiller turned out to be saline
Netflix named a third star on Wednesday for the series it is making about the Yale fertility clinic, and the casting is the easy part. The case underneath it is documented in a federal court file, and the numbers in that file are worse than the logline suggests.

Gaby Chiappe inherited a show that had run on one man's template for five seasons, and says she never tried to step into his shoes. The season she made opened at a hundred per cent — the third time in six seasons the show has hit a clean hundred.

SNL closed its season 52 cast ten days before the premiere — and one of the two new hires had already tried out in an earlier year
Both of the new hires came in through the casting showcases, and one of them had already auditioned in an earlier year. Add them to the five returning featured players and season 52 opens with seventeen people, exactly what the show carried into last season.

Who killed Anais's father in A Remarkable Place to Die? Two men were already in prison for it when episode one began
Let's get one thing straight about Queenstown: the mountains are gorgeous, the lake is gorgeous, and absolutely everyone is lying about something. That's the deal A Remarkable Place to Die offers you in its very first episode, when Detective Anais Mallory rolls back into her hometown wearing the specific facial expression of a woman who does not believe a single word of the official record.

Reacher's spinoff Neagley opened at 89% — the lowest score in the franchise, and the reason isn't the cast
Eighty-nine per cent is a good score. It is also the lowest anything in the Reacher universe has posted, and the two rotten reviews that pulled it there both go after the writing rather than Maria Sten.

AMC's app went dark for two hours two days before Resident Evil opens. The chain hasn't said why
AMC’s app stopped working at half past three on Wednesday afternoon, Eastern time. Within half an hour Downdetector was logging 820 complaints a quarter-hour, 86% of them about the app specifically. The chain has said nothing, and Resident Evil opens in two days.

Where does A Remarkable Place to Die take place? The real New Zealand town it's both set and filmed in
Some shows invent a town, some shows borrow one, and some shows just point a camera at a real place so photogenic it feels like set dressing. A Remarkable Place to Die is firmly in category three.

The first person to win The Voice has died at 43. The show that made him spent four years off air
Ben Saunders is being written up in America this week as the first person ever to win The Voice, which is true and still slightly misleading. He won the Dutch original in January 2011, months before NBC put its version on the air, and he was found dead in a lake near Arnhem on Tuesday at 43.

Resident Evil is heading for $40-50M, and the film to compare it to isn't a Resident Evil movie
Resident Evil opens Friday, and Wednesday’s tracking says Sony is about to erase a record that has stood in this franchise since 2010. The number that predicts it, though, isn’t anywhere in the franchise — it belongs to the film Zach Cregger made before this one.
